As of the morning of today, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the Education Students’ Electoral Commission (ESEC) has announced the withdrawal of Nuesa Presidential Candidate, Oloyede Darasimi ‘Daraj’ from the Nuesa ’24 election following following a withdrawal letter sent to the commission this morning, around 7:58am.
The withdrawal occurred following several controversies surrounding his endorsement by the department’s stakeholders. Although he appeared in the screening and had a score of 67.plus, he failed to show up at yesterday’s press night.
The Electoral commission has now stated that even though the ballot papers have already been printed where Daraj’s name appears, no vote should be accorded to him. It further stressed that any one who voted for him will be counted as null and void.
The letter of withdrawal submitted to ESEC
The Nuesa Election is set to hold tomorrow, Wednesday March 13, 2024 with the manifesto night today, March 12, 2024
During the course of our previous interview with one of the NUESA Presidential Candidate, Emmanuel Olamide Samuel, ‘Mazi’, some expressions were made against the former Nuesa-UI Speaker, Rt. Hon. Usman Bolarinwa (USB) which spurred his reactions.
In an interview with USB, he responded to all allegations placed against him by the former sports director as it concerns a petition publicly signed and orchestrated by the former Nuesa FLC Speaker.
Scribe: Good Afternoon. Kindly introduce yourself.
USB: Afternoon sir. My name is BOLARINWA USMAN (Rt. hon), former speaker NUESA FLC 11th assembly.
Scribe: Can you help add your department and level, Sir?
USB: I’m a 400l student of the department of Adult Education.
Scribe: Alright. Let’s walk this way. Before you submitted that petition against the former Sport Director, who is also an aspirant for the position of Nuesa President, were there any heated differences between you and him, directly or indirectly?
USB: Yes we had heated differences as a result of the NUESA cup. If there is no competition, I don’t think there will be a problem. I only care about all NUESA events be it socially, sporty or politically and I will never allow anybody to dent our name within or outside the faculty.
Scribe: Likewise, objectively, not minding that petition, do you find him capable as a Sports Director.
USB: Capable? I believe if the word capable is used in the right context, he will never have had the opportunity to purchase a form but this is a free world and I believe if he had an opponent then, he can never win.
Scribe: Alright. Let’s clear some lines. For members of the public, most especially Educators, who were not aware of the petition’s content, can you briefly run us through the major details?
USB: Okay. Like I wrote in my letter to the FLC, CEC and ESEC and I quote;
“The Sports Director’s failure to uphold his duties and responsibilities has had a detrimental impact on the smooth running of the competition. His lack of accountability has resulted in numerous issues, including scheduling conflicts, poor communication with participants, and a general disorganization that has marred the reputation of the event. Furthermore, his nonchalant attitude towards the concerns raised by educators and participants alike is unacceptable. Despite repeated feedback and calls for improvement, he has shown a complete disregard for the importance of his role and the impact of his actions on the overall success of the Deans Cup Competition”.
This is about the plight of educators involved in the competition which he was irresponsible to. I met with him physically and also through calls to complain and advised him to try to be better but he chose to be irresponsible and decline the calls of educators. That’s not the attribute of a leader which he claimed to be.
Scribe: Thanks a lot. With the submission of the FLC disciplinary committee that passed him on, concerning the petitioner’s allegations. What’s your take on this?
USB: On the day of the disciplinary hearing, I believe he told you I was supposed to be there but he was my**ic in thinking that I must be invited before I can show up. He might think the committee acquitted him and it’s based on the fact that he was responsible, No. He was discharged so as not to pose more problems for him because I heard he explained himself and they bought it without anybody to bear him witness. So he should not be happy he was discharged based on fair ground.
Scribe: He believed you not being there to witness the procession, invited or not, means the petition you submitted was lacking fact, and therefore a matter of propaganda. Categorically, is the petition of originality, with facts?
USB: To clarify this and make him learn, a committee must invite you before you show up because it’s a closed door session and not a plenary. Maazi is too small to use propaganda against, I have better things to do.
If the petition lacks originality, I believe educators will not sign it and they did because it is original. I can remember vividly when I stopped posting the link and others took it upon themselves to post again and part of them are his friends and classmates. His classmates also claimed he’s incompetent and I should continue posting the link. That’s because he has betrayed the trust of a lot of educators.
I saw in his interview that I want to soil his good name and reputation. If I may ask, what good name or reputation has he built within or outside the faculty. I’m calling you to order with my petition and you took it as a case against you, that means he’s not worthy to lead anymore cos he doesn’t like to be criticized which is not possible in politics, you just have to respond to it in the right manner.
Scribe: Betrayed the trust of Educators? Don’t you think saying this will dent his image concerning his presidential candidacy and also the fact that this interview will go viral?
USB: Like I said before, I will never allow anybody to dent the name of NUESA anywhere. I’m only talking as a concerned educator and I never meant to soil an image that has been dented already when it concerns Mazi.
Scribe: Alright. You seem to be expressing yourself in a very strict tone. It shows the level of the boils you have against ‘Mazi’. Do you dislike him that much or you just don’t appreciate the fact that he’s running for Nuesa 001 with all the controversies surrounding him?
USB: I need to correct you on this once again, I have nothing against him and never will because we are not on the same level and I’m leaving soon for good. I didn’t know him until the last election at the faculty and I convinced people to vote because they wanted to void it. So why will I have anything against him? We only had issues because of the deans cup. I don’t play politics of hatred and will never do that. I believe you get me right.
Scribe: Alright Sir. That’s well registered. He made another claim that you ignored the Faculty Officer’s invitation. Is that true?
USB: Don’t mind him, I was on my way to Lagos when he called that the FO wanted to see me and I told him I will be available during the coming week when I return back to school. I came to school on that said Monday, went for my morning class and I checked his office but he wasn’t there. Perhaps he’s yet to arrive in his office for the day. I called the Nuesa President to explain to him and he explained that the Faculty Officer wanted to settle the petition issue and there’s no need to meet with him as the case has been settled with the FLC.
Scribe: Okay. Lastly, to round this up. I want you to clear the aspect of PROPAGANDA. In one of our (Assesa Press) publications, we made an opinion writeup trying to conclude that that petition was centered around the election considering the fact that his opponent is from your department.
He also made such claims that the center image of the petition is election PROPAGANDA. What’s your take on this?
USB: It’s normal for anybody to call it propaganda because when you wanna go for a political position and something comes against you in any publication, we call it propaganda to hide from the truth and he has a right to call it propaganda because I have a candidate but I’m here to tell you today that it’s based on fact rather propaganda.
Scribe: Alright. Anything you want to express before we wrap this beautiful insight up?
USB: I believe educators know what is right for us during this election and if we want the faculty to continue standing at the top, Mazi is not the right person to lead us anywhere. I believe educators know what’s good and they will not disappoint themselves.
Scribe: Okay. Thanks a lot for your time. Really appreciate it. From us here, we wish everyone best of luck. May the best candidate win for the progress of NUESA-UI
As the 2024 Nuesa Election styles to being 2 days away, we find pace and solace in having a moment of conversation with our presidential aspirants. We continue the interview with another aspirant to the position of Nuesa President, Emmanuel Samuel Olamide, (pka Mazi) a 300-level student of the Human Kinetics department
Interviewer: Can you help introduce yourself?
Olamide: I’m Emmanuel Samuel Olamide, a 300 level student of the department of Human Kinetics, Faculty of Education.
Interviewer: For your candidacy, can you help clarify the position you are aspiring for?
Olamide: I’m a presidential aspirant for the Faculty of Education.
Interviewer: Alright. I think we should call you a fighter. Having faced a series of allegations from the FLC and initially disqualified by ESEC, you were later vindicated by FJC. You’ve almost rounded all the arms of NUESA. You want to comment on this?
Olamide: Well, personally I believe that nothing good comes easy. These are just trials of integrity and character and I’ve proven again and again that, Maazi is more than a person, it’s a Movement.
Interviewer: A movement? That sounds like a walk supported by a number of individuals. What makes this movement something that can materialize to its sighted goal?
Olamide: Ideas aren’t fully formed. Far away Greece, centuries ago Plato didn’t know his ideas would mean much today. It’s not a one of thing as we all have ideas that we believe in. It’s a movement of Service and I’ve shown that. When I was sports sec., I had the longest running program in the Faculty; 2 weeks of selflessness service. Isn’t that a movement?
Interviewer: I’m sure Educators have the intellect to score you based on this.
Olamide: Different strokes for different folks. I must say.
Interviewer: Considering your run of knowledge in sports and also combining the experience as the former sport director, do you think that is enough to aspire for the position of Nuesa President?
Olamide: Anyone can aspire to be. It’s what you’ve to offer, your impact and the positive changes you want to make that matters.
Interviewer: Which means Olamide Samuel ‘Mazi’ has something worthwhile for all Educators if elected as NUESA 001?
Olamide: There is continuity in administration. This means efficient plans of past administrations will continue and new plans in line with the motto of Nuesa “ for progress and wisdom “ will be surely implemented.
Interviewer: I spot the word continuity, which shall birth this question. What is the key drive of your ambition to run for Nuesa President?
Olamide: The school is a fragment of society and for us to effect the possibility of positive changes that we want to see happen in society, we need to get it right in our learning communities. Politics is everywhere spanning from the Family to Religious places and with one core thing in mind, improving humanity. With this in mind, improving the welfare of many Educator’s of which I belong (as an effect of the community earlier mentioned) is the drive. We should be better as “Nation Builders”.
Interviewer: By the significant saying of WELFARISM, you mean making life better holistically for every single Educator?
Olamide: America as the greatest country can’t say that it has holistically improved the life of every one of its citizens. However, the plans set in place are for the betterment of all Americans and to this I need to state that the plans I’ve are for all educators and will ensure that it impacts to a large extent.
Interviewer: Alright. Let’s take a look at some controversies. In the allegations you were guilty of, according to the FLC Disciplinary Committee, that of Extra-budgetary and Accepting funds of scholarship into personal account.
Considering the weight of these offenses, how do you want Educators to trust your administration financially if elected?
Olamide: To address this. I’ll tell you what I told the disciplinary committee of the Flc, Esec chairman during my screening.
I had a personal relationship with the person who paid money into my account who had it previously. I was also cleared by the Disciplinary committee of the Flc as I was able to account for every money spent. The extra-budgetary statement may be confusing to a lay man. The money was put into good use. Upgrading prize money from #52,000 to #105,000 was considered an extra budget. The extra budget was used to provide individual awards for participants. A lot of Educators still don’t know this.
Interviewer: A number of them will know through the publication of this interview. Thanks for the clarification.
You want to comment on that petition written against you concerning Dean’s Cup management? Perhaps, you need to make clarifications for people who need such.
Olamide: About the petition, it’s clear that the petitioner did it to soil my good name and reputation. Someone that petitioned me and didn’t come when the disciplinary committee called me, ignored the invitation of the Faculty officer and is now seeking redemption? His department had a candidate and he decided to play political propaganda with me. Let it be known that I’ve been cleared of his petition charges since the 29th of February.
Interviewer: A propaganda. Isn’t that expected in a time like this? Don’t you think that’s the beauty of election campaigns? Seeing politics as a dirty game that they call it.
Well, don’t you think that petition and the fact that you scale through it must have added to the numbers of Educators who believe in you?
Olamide: As earlier said, if we are to reform we have to reflect. These are issues that the society outside school faces. We don’t even think about the ripple effect that propaganda has. No one from my team has and will trend propaganda because life goes beyond school. The petition was a dent on my credibility and my person and I’ve proved that, my credibility and integrity stands. I hope Educators can see the truth in the light of recent events.
Interviewer: Alright. Three presidential candidates from the same hall of residence. Who is the hall supporting?
Olamide: The hall is playing non-partisan and I understand that. Freedom to vote and to be voted for is a tenet upholding in the Hall. That’s a testament to the fact that Katanga hall is the greatest of all!
Interviewer: What gives you that edge over other candidates? What is that thing you wanna sell as unique?
Olamide: The question should be, what have the other candidates done in the effectiveness of their offices? I’ve brought ideas which can be improved upon and in a way, set a bit of standard. Next Dean’s cup prize money for 1st position of the Male team can’t be lesser than #25,000 and of the Female team can’t be lesser than #20,000. Look at me recognizing students with disabilities, no one has done that via sports till I did it. I ensured individual medals and brought professional referees. I’m an efficient and efficient person and more importantly willing to learn even from whatever may be deemed a mistake. That alone is a unique thing about me. Secondly, most people don’t know that I work with SDG 2030 goals in mind. We should incorporate 21st century thinking into our doing and I’m the only candidate that can do that.
Interviewer: Alright. Any information you want to pass across to Educators?
Olamide: We were students first before anything and shouldn’t lose focus of our primary objectives. To every Educator, irrespective of any whatsoever, Maazi will always be your number 1 fan.
Interviewer: Thank You. We wish you all the very best of luck in your ambition.
At the opening match of the group stage games in the ongoing UI Interfaculty games (Football Category), the match between Faculty of Education and Public Health has ended in a 1-1 draw, thanks to a late minute penalty by ‘Guru Mighty’ to rescue a point for the Educators.
In a match played at the SUB pitch, which was the third match of the opening round of matches of the competition which started today, Sunday, March 10, 2024, both teams were eager to claim all three points with Education in all navy blue shirt and Public Health in Red with a touch of white colour.
With players like Agbowo, J.Kareem, Merteserker, Korede and some couple of stars, it was expected that Education will make the match a hell for Public Health. Contrary to expectations, Public Health began the match on a high note by spending the first 15 minutes of the game in front foot.
The later part of the 25 minutes first half saw Education grow into the game. Series of chances were lost as ‘Abass’ who was at the front for Education failed to control the ball well and as such failed to convert some chances. During the course of the first half, Public Health put the ball in the back of the net twice but was clearly ruled out for an offside; to mark the first half in goaless draw.
In the second half, Public Health started on the front foot and got rewarded with a goal from ‘Fadacca’, after capitalizing on a disorganization in the Education defense owing to a corner kick. Education then began to search for an equalizer through several attacks and shots on target.
Even though several controversies were launched as supporters of Education were angry at the decisions of the match officials after about 2 penalty kicks were not rewarded. The effort which will lead to a goal was rewarded following a hand ball by a Public Health defender in Box 18 around stoppage time. ‘Guru Mighty’ will later convert the spot kick into a goal that set the scoreline in a 1-1 draw.
In other part of the group, Faculty of Science (FASSA) had earlier on put 4 unreplied goals past Faculty of Clincal Science to stay top of the group.
The result of Assesa Press Night which was held at room A202/203, Faculty of Education by 2pm today, Saturday March 09, 2024 has now been released.
After rigorous scrutiny and questioning of aspirants vying for various positions at the department students’ association level (ASSESA) by about 26 Press Men that cut across members of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI), attached below are the aggregate scores.
“You’ve exhausted the money sent to you at the beginning of the month? I can believe you!”
“Diane, I’m not joking. The allowance is no longer enough for me. I received it at the end of last month to cater for me this month, look at me now, I’m the real definition of sapa.”
Diane met Bisi, her friend, on her way to class. Bisi complained about not being able to pay her quota concerning the practical they have in a course. Diane, who knows how much Bisi receives from home, is still shocked at how her friend spends the allowance sent to her from home. Diane receives roughly 10k from home and she still manages it well.
“Easy, Bisi. What did you use your allowance for?”
“I don’t even know! The money just comes and flies away into thin air. I’m fed up with not meeting my needs. Gosh!
“You should be able to pinpoint what you used your money for na. Just think”
“Hmm… Okay. I bought a purse, shoes, and sponsored an event coming up in my department….”
“Diane Diane! Diane the money bag”
“Are you mocking me now? Isn’t it good to help when people need your help?”
“Oh my, it’s one of the best things to do, but not at your own detriment dear. Continue, I’m all ears”
“I got some other things too Sha”
“Do you need those things? I mean, do you really need the bag, the shoe and all of that?”
“Of course, yes. The shoes I have, people knows me with them already and you know, as per fine girl I suppose dress fine”
“Really? Who cares about what you wear? Even if they care, should you do it to ruin your finances? The things you got, if you didn’t buy them, could you do without them? Like, if you didn’t buy them you would die?”
“God forbid” Bisi snapped her fingers over her head. “How would you say such a thing? I could do without them sha”
“Then you didn’t need them. You should know how to differentiate your needs from your wants. Those things you said you bought with your allowance are not really worth it, I know they would add to your fine girl, but you are suffering for it. The things you can do without currently and they won’t affect your living are your wants, while the things that if you don’t have them, you can’t do without are your needs”
“Wants and needs, I will have to do them all later, àbí? So why not do them now? And, how do you even manage to survive with the amount they send to you from home?”
“I know you will get them eventually, but my dear, timing matters. Trying to get the things you desire might later hurt you and I think that’s why we have scale of preference, going for the things needed most first”
“To the last question, my dear, I differentiate my needs from wants ni o”
“Hmmm…So, it’s not everything I’m allowed to buy even if I can afford it?” Bisi asked, frowning at her face.
“Yes ó”
“What’s now the joy of having money when I’m not permitted to spend it the way I like? Money is for spending na. Arghh”
“Absolutely, money is there for you to get the things you desire, but you should weigh them too. Are these things necessary? On the scale of ten, what do they weigh?”
“The process to go through is even more than the money itself.” Bisi said while she chuckled.
“Yes ó. Finance is not what we should take with levity, especially as a student. Let’s talk more about it later, I have a class in the next 10 minutes. See ya later”
“Alright, thank you for your time. Bye” They both hugged as Diane departed for class.

By; Japheth Oladele Cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency secured by cryptography and based on a network that is distributed across a large number of computes. Investors’ hopes that the price of Bitcoin could return to an all-time high in 2024 have thrust the sticky subject of cryptocurrencies back into the spotlight. But key terms associated with crypto such as blockchains, wallets – and more recently spot ETFs – remain something of a mystery for many. But worry not. If you’re hearing these for the first time, or just need a refresher, here are a few key words and what they mean: Bitcoin While many may struggle with the finer points of crypto, pretty much everyone has heard of its most famous product: Bitcoin. But what actually is it?
Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, which is to say a type of digital currency. Unlike traditional currencies – the dollar or pound, for example – Bitcoin is not backed or controlled by centralised financial institutions. This makes it popular for people who think decentralisation can bring financial freedom, but it also makes it extremely volatile – rising and falling in value at the whim of Bitcoin buyers and sellers. In February 2024, its price has been rising rapidly – great news for those who have Bitcoin. But it is not so long since it plummeted – a pattern which has been repeated multiple times since the cryptocurrency was launched.
Blockchain Blockchain is the technology underpinning all cryptocurrencies, and many related products like non fungible tokens (NFTs). In essence, it is a virtual spreadsheet on which all the buying and selling of crypto is recorded. They are arranged in blocks linked together in a giant chain – hence the name. Every cryptocurrency transaction is individually recorded onto the blockchain by a huge network of volunteers verifying its authenticity by using computer programmes. The incentive to do this for Bitcoin’s network is that the first person to validate transactions is rewarded in Bitcoin. This potentially lucrative process, known as mining, is also controversial because of the incredible amount of energy used as people the world over race to be the first to successfully update the blockchain. This also brings us on to “halving”. The amount of Bitcoins that can be mined is capped at 21 million. And most of them are already in circulation. But roughly every four years, the number of Bitcoins rewarded to those who successfully create new blocks of the cryptocurrency is cut in half. The next Bitcoin “halving” event is expected to take place in spring 2024.
Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) ETFs are portfolios that let investors bet on multiple assets without having to buy any themselves. Traded on stock exchanges like shares, their value depends on how the overall portfolio performs in real time. They can comprise a combination of gold and silver bullion, for example, or a mix of shares in both technology and insurance companies. A spot Bitcoin ETF buys the cryptocurrency directly, “on the spot”, at its current price, throughout the day. While some ETFs already contained Bitcoin indirectly, the US approved several spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024. This allowed new investors, such as investment management firms like Blackrock and Fidelity, to enter the speculative world of Bitcoin without having to worry about digital wallets or navigating crypto exchanges.
Crypto Exchange A crypto exchange is the digital platform where investors can buy, sell and trade cryptocurrencies. Similar to traditional investing, a crypto exchange acts as a brokerage where people can transfer traditional money, like pounds or dollars, from their banks into cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. Most transactions are accompanied by fees.
Crypto Wallet A crypto wallet is a place where investors hold their cryptocurrency. It stores the virtual assets much like a traditional wallet holds cash. There are two types, a hot wallet and a cold wallet. Hot wallets are connected to the internet, and thus more accessible for quick transfers and easy access. Cold wallets are physical devices like specially designed USBs that store crypto offline typically for safer and longer term storage.
Ethereum Ethereum is used to describe both the second largest cryptocurrency after Bitcoin, represented by the Ether token, and the blockchain underpinning it. This supports an array of different applications and digital assets, such as non-fungible tokens. It functions in a similar way to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, but in 2022 switched to a greener operating system requiring less computers and energy.
By Ayinke. When we talk of democracy, the press stands as a beacon of truth, ensuring that no stone is left unturned and no wrongdoing is swept under the carpet. As advocates for transparency and accountability, we, the citizens, rely on the press to shed light on the intricacies of political processes, especially during crucial electoral periods. In recent times, corruption seems to be the song on every lips as dishonest people seem to be everywhere. Even the mouth that eats salt and pepper that should tell the truth is also an hive of dishonesty and corruption. Well some things are nature bearing and not office bearing after all the holy book said “the heart of man is desperately wicked who can know it all”. Let me stop speaking in parables, I am only saying that an office will not bring a good nature from you if you are a bad person. Despite this though, some of us have a duty which is “Nothing But the Truth”. Our own mouth will not be corrupted neither shall our pocket hold what is not ours.
It is on this grounds that we call the ESEC that thorough scrutiny should be done on all candidates wanting to rerun. It was a glad thing to see them leave a result pending in the just concluded election screening due to supposed or alleged ongoing findings on mismanagement of funds but we urge that these findings should extend to the walls of those currently part of administration in their departments. We should remember that The faculty of Education is not just an academia, it is a Reformia . Hence, our faculty can not be a den of corrupt administratives. Year in and year out, there is usually one corrupt person or another in the faculty of Education, if it is not the president, it is the treasurer, if it is not these two it is a sports director either at faculty level or department level. We have even seen the press body in this same soil of corruption.
As citizens, it is our inherent right to demand transparency from our leaders, particularly those seeking reelection. The upcoming electoral committee holds the key to unlocking the truth behind the intentions and actions of aspirants, especially those within the current administration vying for another term in office. It is imperative that the electoral committee conducts thorough investigations into the transparency of all candidates, leaving no room for ambiguity or deceit.
The current political climate presents a challenge wherein the urgency to conduct elections before the transition to a new administration can lead to hasty and potentially perilous decisions. In this rush, there exists a loophole wherein incumbents, despite their ongoing tenure, are afforded the opportunity to run for reelection without undergoing the necessary scrutiny or accountability measures. This loophole allows individuals with questionable integrity, such as a dishonest sports director, to seek higher office without being held accountable for their actions.
Such a scenario not only undermines the sanctity of the electoral process but also erodes public trust in the democratic system. How can we, as citizens, make informed decisions when crucial information regarding the transparency and integrity of candidates is withheld or obscured? The very foundation of democracy rests upon the principle of transparency, wherein elected officials are held accountable to the electorate, and the press plays a pivotal role in upholding this principle.
Therefore, we urge the electoral committee to rise to the occasion and fulfil its duty to the people by conducting comprehensive investigations into the backgrounds, actions, and intentions of all aspirants. It is not enough to simply accept candidates at face value or to turn a blind eye to their past indiscretions. True democracy demands transparency, honesty, and accountability from those who seek to lead.
Furthermore, as citizens, we must remain vigilant and engaged in the political process, holding our leaders accountable for their actions and advocating for greater transparency at all levels of government. Our collective voice has the power to effect change and ensure that our democratic institutions remain strong and resilient in the face of adversity.
In conclusion, the pursuit of truth and transparency in electoral processes is not merely a noble endeavour; it is a fundamental right upon which our democracy depends. As we stand on the cusp of another election cycle, let us reaffirm our commitment to these principles and demand nothing less from those who seek to represent us. Together, we can uphold the integrity of our electoral system and safeguard the future of our democracy for generations to come.

“You’ve exhausted the money sent to you at the beginning of the month? I can believe you!” “Diane, I’m not joking. The allowance is no longer enough for me. I received it at the end of last month to cater for me this month, look at me now, I’m the real definition of sapa.” Diane met Bisi, her friend, on her way to class.
Just think” “Hmm… Okay. I bought a purse, shoes, and sponsored an event coming up in my department….” “Diane Diane! Diane the money bag” “Are you mocking me now? Isn’t it good to help when people need your help?” “Oh my, it’s one of the best things to do, but not at your own detriment dear. Continue, I’m all ears” “I got some other things too Sha” “Do you need those things? I mean, do you really need the bag, the shoe and all of that?” “Of course, yes. The shoes I have, people knows me with them already and you know, as per fine girl I suppose dress fine” “Really?
Who cares about what you wear? Even if they care, should you do it to ruin your finances? The things you got, if you didn’t buy them, could you do without them? Like, if you didn’t buy them you would die?” “God forbid” Bisi snapped her fingers over her head. “How would you say such a thing? I could do without them sha” “Then you didn’t need them. You should know how to differentiate your needs from your wants. Those things you said you bought with your allowance are not really worth it, I know they would add to your fine girl, but you are suffering for it. The things you can do without currently and they won’t affect your living are your wants, while the things that if you don’t have them, you can’t do without are your needs” “Wants and needs, I will have to do them all later, àbí? It is no longer news that the forthcoming NUESA election has been pegged to March 13th by the (ESEC), this ticks a bell to becoming conscious of selecting the right leader devoid of sentiments but gauged by merit and capability. The consideration of a leader based on sentiments, religion and departments is not a new thing in the faculty of education which, however, could lead to voting a leader who is not just less capable but also with a bad intention of embezzlement. One of the processes towards choosing the leader is the one that relies on the ‘ESEC’ who are known as the Education Student’s Electoral Commission.
The ESEC of the faculty of education are the electoral body who ensure the organization and supervision of the election process, having a fair election will bring a positive judgment and flexibility. It is a major process to the majority picking the rightful representative and it’s one thing for the electoral body to be selected and it is another for the electoral body to be impartial in their process of conducting the election which calls for this aspect of the process of election not to be undermined.
There are various responsibilities in the hands of the electoral committee and it’s a thing to be a committee and it’s another for them to be aware of their role. The responsibilities of this electoral committee is to monitor the political campaign, mainly they cover the assurance of an organized, well undertaken, highly supervised election into various offices from the president to the financial secretary, treasurer and every other post into the political office. This process should be strictly conducted as the process leading to voting the one who will stand firm in upholding the great affairs of the students should never be given a glimpse of levity. They are to enhance the the arrangement for the registration of persons qualified to vote and revise the registered voters before they proceed into the action of voting, this is as important also in the aim of ensuring a fair election.
To carry out these functions, a disciplined mind is required which connotes that to ensure a fair election in the faculty of education, the electoral committee must posses the value of transparency which implies openness and accountability in all their activities pertaining the process of an election any lack of transparency could be linked with a corrupt state of the process of election declaring it void. Importantly, the spirit of integrity will push a lot to rise and instill the faculty of education with a group of leaders who the people want and see as qualified.
Integrity means honesty and truthfulness if this is a major lacked value in these set of committee then there will be stain in the process of the election and conclusively, the value seen before the nomination of the committee should well rooted without a shake, commitment is very essential to the process of election and in order to have strong education we start from the process which will help with a strong faculty by enhancing a free and fair election.
Nigeria is currently grappling with the widespread proliferation of counterfeit and substandard products, encompassing food items and medicines, posing a severe threat to millions of lives. A 2023 report from Bloomberg categorizes Nigeria as the most counterfeit market in the developing world. The nation prominently ranks among African countries dealing with the dire consequences of fake drugs, leading to thousands of annual fatalities.
These fraudulent medicines and products frequently contain harmful substances or lack essential ingredients, causing numerous Nigerians to fall victim to their detrimental effects. Narrating a distressing incident, Juliet Odoh, an accountant based in Abuja, shared that her eight-month-old son developed rashes and bumps after using supposedly trustworthy baby lotion and soap purchased from a local supermarket. Similar instances, such as the tragic April 2021 incident in Kano, where about 10 people died and 50 others suffered kidney-related issues after consuming “substandard and fake” juices, highlight the severity of the problem.
Despite the presence of regulatory bodies like the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), tasked with ensuring the safety, authenticity, and quality of goods in Nigeria, many Nigerians remain exposed to substandard and fake medicines and products.
The recent discovery of counterfeit wines and beverages in Aba has fueled public outrage over the efficacy of NAFDAC and SON, prompting calls for a comprehensive overhaul of these agencies. Reports from 2022 indicate that over 70 percent of drugs dispensed in Nigeria were substandard, with a significant portion of the population lacking access to quality health services.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in a 2023 publication, revealed alarming statistics linking as many as 267,000 deaths per year to falsified and substandard antimalarial medicines in sub-Saharan Africa. Another 169,271 deaths were attributed to falsified and substandard antibiotics used to treat severe pneumonia in children.
While some attribute the rise in counterfeiting to the challenging economic situation, others point to ineffective regulation, monitoring, and enforcement. Muda Yusuf, CEO of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, highlighted the economic pressures, stating that rising production costs and prices of genuine products provide counterfeiters with lucrative opportunities.
Numerous factors contribute to the problem, including the highly unregulated open drug markets in major cities, Nigeria’s heavy reliance on imports (over 70 percent of drugs), and the influx of illicit and counterfeit medical products from China and India. A 2019 PwC report estimated that Nigeria was losing about N200 billion annually to counterfeit medicine.
The challenges in combating this issue include connivance with manufacturers and distributors for personal gain, inadequate penalties for offenders, and the overwhelming task faced by regulatory agencies. The NAFDAC boss emphasized the agency’s limitations in effectively policing the vast array of registered medicines.
Public health experts stress the severe consequences of counterfeit medicines, escalating healthcare costs, jeopardizing universal health coverage, and contributing to an underground economy that deprives the government of revenue and displaces legitimate jobs. The erosion of trust among consumers is evident, with concerns about the authenticity of products leading to potential health risks and exacerbating chronic diseases.
In conclusion, the pervasive issue of counterfeit and substandard products in Nigeria demands urgent attention, comprehensive reforms, and strengthened regulatory measures to safeguard the well-being of the population and mitigate the economic and health consequences associated with these illicit practices.
The Education Students’ Electoral Committee has announced the reinstatement of Olamide Samuel (Mazi) on Saturday, March 09, 2024 following the verdict of the Faculty Judiciary Council (FJC) on the case.
The reinstatement of Mazi as a Presidential Candidate in the coming election was birthed as a result of the court sitting of the FJC, yesterday March 08, 2024, where the court found the earlier judgment of the electoral commission faulty in line with protocol and constitution.
In the verdict of the Judiciary Council signed by the Chief Judge, Justice Oyediran Faith, it was expressed that the electoral act used as a measure for the disqualification of ‘Mazi’ is yet to be recognized as it has not been signed by the Faculty President. The court, as such, termed the disqualification null and void as it was based on the stance of ‘no law, no crime’.
ESEC, in its release signed by the Chairman, Commissioner, Phillips, Johnson, therefore stressed that it remain committed to upholding the association’s constitution throughout the electoral period and also discourage all forms of violence and slanderous tactics.
In Survival Cup 2024 Group B, tagged the ‘Group of death’, with three teams in the group, ASSE has crashed out of the competition via fair play with 6 matches played and all matches ending in a goalless draw.
Group B consists of BAMSSA duo of Physiotherapy and Biochemistry who partnered to play in the tournament, Tech giants WIPE, made of players from the department of IPE and WPE, and ASSE invincibles.
Group B was indeed a tough group as all sides failed to score throughout all matches which further proved the quality of the teams in Group B.
WIPE, the table topper was able to qualify for the next round due to the low number of cards awarded to them in the entire group matches. While ASSE crashed out having had more card.
As the 2024 Nuesa Election styles to being a matter of days away, we find pace and solace in having a moment of conversation with our presidential aspirants. We continue the interview with another aspirant to the position of Nuesa President, Kola Oluwafemi Samuel, (pka Brazen) a 300-level student of the Adult Education Department.
Interviewer: Can you please introduce yourself?
Brazen: Okay, Thank You. I am Kolapo Oluwafemi Samuel, pka BRAZEN. A 300 level student of the department of Adult Education, Aspiring for the post of NUESA President
Interviewer: To start with, can you run us through how the nickname ‘BRAZEN’ came about?
Brazen: BRAZEN was adopted from my business name – BRAZEN PAWS KENNEL and FARMS. – We are into Dog breeding and sales. Brazen means to be Bold, without shame. (I’m never ashamed of what I do). Basically friends, business partners prefer to call me Brazen than Femi. At some point I loved to be called Brazen sef.
Interviewer: Smiles. That’s really beautiful seeing you as a lovable entrepreneur. Let’s move through this direction with that. Going into this election, what are you banking on to fetch you votes, the popularity of BRAZEN or the plans of Kolapo Oluwafemi Samuel?
Brazen: Thank you. Hmm, as the previous financial Secretary of the faculty I’ve carried out my duties well according to the constitution and satisfaction of my fellow great educators. 2 times financial Secretary (my dept and our faculty) with a good track record. This has helped me gain the trust and support of the good people of NUESA and also my plans for NUESA. These are the things I’m banking on for my votes, although popularity can play a role but not the pillar to bank on.
Interviewer: Alright. To have decided to run for the NUESA-UI 001 takes a lot of courage and will. What birthed this ambition?
Brazen: It’s empowering to recognize one’s strengths and how they can be channeled effectively. Throughout my journey, I’ve consistently embodied the qualities of a confident and just leader, driven by passion, willingness to serve humanity and a strong spirit of teamwork.
With my deep admiration for NUESA UI, I’m committed to leveraging my leadership skills to foster continuous growth within our esteemed Faculty.
Interviewer: That’s strong. But do you think Educators are seeing these qualities in you?
Brazen: With the support? Yes
Interviewer: It’s obvious that from your own end, you’ve acclaimed a number of supporters enough to get you votes for victory. You want to comment on this?
Brazen: No comment. My fellow Educators will decide that on Election Day.
Interviewer: Some people say BRAZEN is quiet, soft and rather gentle looking. They feel you don’t express the courage and ‘sagacity’ of a student leader. Is this true of BRAZEN?
Brazen: Oh wow. Barack Obama was said to be quiet and gentle but turned out to be one of the 6 best presidents of the United States. My looks don’t describe my ability.
Interviewer: From the screening, with Mazi out, your other two opponents seem to be coming from ASSE, with the recent plays in ASSE, do you see this as an advantage for you?
Brazen: We are focused on our work rate to achieve our goal. What plays over there shouldn’t be seen as an advantage or disadvantage to us.
Interviewer: Alright. Upon election as Nuesa 001, what is the first task you seek to accomplish?
Brazen: All plans to be accomplished upon election are already in place, Which will be revealed on the manifesto ground. You are equally invited as we share them.
Interviewer: Any legacy and image you seek to leave behind if elected?
Brazen: The goal is to move NUESA UI forward and if that is accomplished, it’s the best legacy one can leave behind.
Interviewer: I would like you to be a bit more explicit. In what aspect will you move NUESA-UI forward?
Brazen: All plans to be accomplished upon election are already in place, Which will be revealed on the manifesto ground when educators will come and hear for themselves.
Interviewer: Alright. Your final take to educators and your supporters.
Brazen: “I want to reassure my supporters that my goal isn’t merely to hold office, but to ensure efficient and effective administration. By the end of our term, our administration will be a learning experience, and I am committed to making educators proud, as I have always strived to do.”
Interviewer: Thanks for your time. We wish you the very best on your presidential ambition.
Brazen: Thank you so much. I appreciate the moment.
As the 2024 Nuesa Election styles to being a matter of days away, we find pace and solace in having a moment of conversation with our presidential aspirants. We picked up the interview with one of the aspirants into the position of the Nuesa President, Ogunmefun Samuel, (pka Sammy) a 300-level student of Arts and Social Sciences Education Department.
Interviewer: Good evening, Mr Sammy
Sammy: Good evening
Interviewer: Please can you introduce yourself to us in a few words?
Sammy: I am Samuel Ogunmefun, a penultimate student of ASE. Immediate past Vice President of ASSESA, and an aspirant vying for the post of NUESA-UI President.
Interviewer: Alright, Sir. With your use of immediate past vice president does that mean you are not responsible for any vice president duties at the moment in the current administration?
Sammy: Yes, it does. However, I can still help in carrying out some duties if called upon by the executive council.
Interviewer: Why choose to run when your duties as vice president are not over? We well know that the duties of a vice president are most crucial towards the end of the Session but now you chose to run laying the responsibility on other executives who were not elected for the position?
Sammy: As much as I would have loved to wait till the end of my tenure, the constitution and the timing of NUESA election did not allow it.
Interviewer: Can you list out the duties of a Vice President that are most crucial towards the end of the session? You best know the duties.
Sammy: More reasons why I need to make things clear to you.
Interviewer: Honour me with the clarity, Sir
Sammy: The Social Director is in charge of the duties you have in mind.
Interviewer: Okay. Can you share with us your experience as the vice-president of Assesa so far till your resignation?
Sammy: Thank you for this question. My experience as the Vice President was a memorable one. It was memorable in the sense that there were challenges at the beginning of my tenure. Before we were inaugurated into office, I had it in mind to organise the Freshers welcome/orientation before 5th week of the academic calendar.
The first issue I had then was that our inauguration was delayed due to some reasons, and after the inauguration, we had to wait for like a week or two for the planning of the programs. During this period, I, together with the other executives, was able to organise an online orientation for the fresh students. Even before that, we’ve had a “mini orientation” at the faculty LLT, that was the second week of resumption. Some of the executives were around to talk to the freshers, and we were able to answer their questions.
Also, I was able to organise a “proper” orientation for the new students around October last year. What I did learn from my experience was the importance of teamwork. The success of the freshers’ welcome and orientation was largely due to the support I got from the executive council and my committee members.
Interviewer: Quite amazing. Rumours they say have bits of truth do you agree?
Sammy: Thank you. It depends on the context.
Interviewer: Rumour has it that your emergence to run for Nuesa President was sudden and not an ambition you have nursed before? If it was pre-nursed, why would you like to run? If not why the sudden interest?
Sammy: Thank you for this question. The ambition to run for NUESA President is what I’ve been nursing since the 200L first semester (before ASUU strike). I am running for this highly esteemed position because of the belief that I can make a positive impact on issues that are important to the association (NUESA) and educators at large.
Interviewer You are quite aware of the issues the emergence of yourself and a fellow Assesaite has caused based on who should run and who should not run, we would like to know your take on this?
Sammy: It’s just so unfortunate that there would be a time like this that two people from the same class would be contesting for the same post at the faculty level. The whole issue has been settled, and the only thing we’re focused on, as a department, is winning the election.
Interviewer: When you say settled, would you mind enlightening us on how it was settled?
Sammy: For the love and progress of the department, the other person has stepped back.
Interviewer: Voluntarily or by allegedly being forced to because as at the recent release of the screening results by ESEC, his name was among the list of screened names?
Sammy: For the love and progress of the department, he voluntarily stepped back. Though, it was a tough decision.
Interviewer: I will like to hold you by your words that his decision to step down was voluntary. In the just concluded screening, it turns out that your grades turned out to be the least. Was this due to lack of preparation or were the ESEC committee biassed?
Sammy: I would like to remain reticent concerning this.
Interviewer: The election process has been a really tough one, we have heard people say loyalty to the department is a ticket to endorsement. Can you enlighten us on this?
Sammy: Stakeholders in different departments have different parameters they use to endorse a candidate. In some departments, loyalty might be part of the parameters.
Interviewer: If you would not mind telling us, would you like to disclose the criteria for your nomination by the stakeholders?
Sammy: I think the stakeholders should be asked this, because they have all the details.
Interviewer: Do you think your nomination and the feud that has transpired will lead to the chances of our department emerging winner being jeopardised?
Sammy: Yes, it’s normal to think that way. We are, however, working tirelessly to salvage the situation.
Interviewer: Alright to finally round up, if tables were turned, will you take Daraj’s decision?
Sammy: Of course, I will. It’s never a do or die affair, it is a DO or DON’T thing.
Interviewer: In addition, is your ambition to serve the purpose of Assesaite/Asse or the body of Educators/Nuesa as a whole?
Sammy: I am going there to serve educators.
Interviewer: Could he have been left to run even without endorsement as stipulated by the constitution?
Sammy: Yes, sure.
Interviewer: Alright. Thank you so much, Mr Samuel Ogunmefun for your time. We hope that the best man always stands out and leads.
The Nuesa Faculty Judicial Council, FJC, has of today, March 07, 2024, summoned the Education Students’ Electoral Commission (ESEC) Chairman, Phillip Johnson, over the disqualification of Emmanuel Olamide Samuel, aspirant for the position of Nuesa President, from the Nuesa’24 elections.
Recall that the candidate was disqualified from the elections on Tuesday, March 05, 2024 after being guilty of three counts of charges which were termed serious by the Nuesa constitution and electoral act according to the electoral constitution.
The letter, signed by the FJC’s Chief Judge, Justice Faith Oyediran, summoned the Chairman to appear before the court owing to a suit filed against him over the disqualification of Emmanuel Olamide Samuel ‘Mazi’ from the electoral race.
The court proceeding for the case is scheduled to be held on Friday, March 08, 2024 by 4pm at room F202/203, Faculty of Education. The election is set to hold on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 with the press night on Monday, March 11, 2024.
After a hit on exemplifying the context surrounding Daraj’s candidacy and endorsement plays, and likewise checking through the event of retaliation which must have in some way influenced the decision on not to endorse Daraj, we roll to the second part of our REVELATIONS. The style of this second part is also like the first. It’s based on popular demands and names shall be mentioned. The editorial board members and Assesa Press in general distance themselves from the sway of launching support for any candidate.
We now drive to the home of NEMESIS. The home of the Golden Rule. The home of nature paying back in your own coin. The rule and the rain of Nemesis will say “do unto others what you will want them to do to you”. It will say, “dear, I’m coming with lots of baggage to bless you with what you did to others.” It’s a fair rule created by nature and operates as a perfect measure to our acts.
Nemesis Call
Daraj betrayed Paulism and ASSE, YES. But, how does the context of Nemesis, Nature and Golden Rule come in here? Let’s just take the ‘three’ to mean the same. To put forward, does that mean Paulism did the same in time past? We ask, you must also be asking, “does that mean Paulism and some people also betrayed a candidate in time past? If Yes, who is the candidate? What happened? When did it happen? Lots of questions rolling in.
Let’s move this way. The capacity of this space won’t give us time to start explaining the background relating to what happened during the Jan/Feb ’20 Nuesa Elections. We know a certain candidate ‘Jude Nicholas’, who declared his presidential candidacy about 2-3 weeks to election won against another who has been in the race for months ‘AbdulAzeez Abduljeleel – African Lincoln’. Well, several plays happened which gave room to the eventual victory of Nicholas.
There were several dramas which were obvious while others weren’t. It was obvious that ‘Lincoln’ lost due to a faction breakout in ASSE. It wasn’t obvious that the majority of ASSE were against his candidacy. It was obvious that on the day of election, some Assesaites were seen stylishly canvassing votes for Nicholas (who is from STE). It wasn’t obvious that ‘Lincoln’ lost the support of a ‘big party’ in ASSE due to his great disapproval and fight against the mismanagement of Assesa funds by this ‘big party’.
We won’t come straight to say if Paulism was a fan of this ‘big party’ that acted against one of theirs. The response from the direct source clarified this. When Paulism was asked (of recent) of his allegiance in that election, he frowned at the claim of betrayal and strongly said he voted and canvassed ‘for’ and not ‘against’. Even though some people claimed that Paulism’s main allegiance was to a candidate who was later disqualified due to the CGPA line.
When ‘Lincoln’ was asked of the allegiance, he confirmed that a series of Assesaites were against him and also confirmed the status of Paulism’s stance; as that even though he shared his campaign graphics, he canvassed against him.

That Daraj came in to betray Paulism two sessions later speaks of Nemesis’ claim and the boiling of retaliation. And that the ‘claim’ of ‘the gang’ being against the candidacy of Daraj speaks a lot. We’ll stop here, we’ve said enough. Deal with the rest.
Two Camps
Here we are again, Assesaites, we are now at the cross road of division once again. Some people have termed this to mean a curse, some have termed it to mean a disadvantage of a big population, some have termed it to mean disunity among big operations. Either Way, we are of two camps. Whereas, through the name ASSE, we are known as one. Perhaps the foundation of it all being the run of segregation has left the tint of backbiting and division within the soil of the land.
Even when we had one candidate (as against now of two) vying for President, we lost. Those times, divisions were not obvious. At least, we still worked with hope thinking we were moving as one force. How can we then make a prediction of when we walk in two different camps, two separate supporters, two arms of authority and two households?
ASSE’s Chances of Winning
Firstly, with the look of things, the spot for the Social Director and Assistant General Secretary are of ASSE. There’s a high chance of securing the position of Academic and Welfare Director through the plays of recent weight of candidacy. With that, the return of ASSE to NUESA positions is secured after taking a break this session with a failure to occupy a position.
Now, the chances of the presidential position seems like a swing owing to the current disunity. To say the strongest between the two candidates will be like saying the Press is already pitching its tent. We believe everyone is wise enough to know the strongest. What we know is, there’s a high chance for one more than the other. But for the two camps, we can say nothing but painfully wish both the best ‘if both later go on to make it to the ballot paper.’
On Revelations aligning to Retaliations and the loud voice of Nemesis, we are bowing out from here. Pick the dots and make good use of them. But we will still continue to express the statement that A HOUSE DIVIDED WITHIN ITSELF SHALL NOT STAND.
Within the period of electoral activities where the battle for a place to the first 10 Nuesa members are being slugged out for, it styles to portray a stage of interesting moments. Through the dark calculations that witness the fall of the unfortunate and the white modifications that transparently credit the powerup of democracy, the manifestation of both add up to the adventurous moment we all love to dwell in. As per the fall of one is the rise of another, let’s solicit with our dear ‘former’ aspirant and ‘former’ Sport Director who was shown the exit door prior to entering the stage.
As to the other end, we rejoice with comrades who are still in the race for the 001 of NUESA-UI. Your wheel is still full of greeze. We would have love to see a 4-man race for the presidential seat but the cooks and boils at the backstage caught our dear friend unaware to get injured by the powerful hands. The hands who are on tab to rumble on the uncultured mistake of our dear friend. What a mistake! What a mess! What a situation! Maybe he was told of his unconstitutional actions but just felt he’s of superior to that document that guides such affairs. Now, he has learned in the hard way. We hope he really learned.
Following the disqualification of Emmanuel Olamide Samuel (pka Mazi) from the 2024 NUESA-UI Elections on March 06, 2024 after he was found to have been guilty of three offenses which were termed serious by the electoral commission, ranges of thoughts and reviews has been the order of the day. As to the rain of politics, you can’t separate the inclusion of propagandas which completes the squard of politics being of intellectual launch and in some way a dirty game.
Was ‘Mazi’ played on that warranted his disqualification? Was it a move of propaganda by some selected people who were angry because of his questionable performance as the Sports Director? Was it a move from the camp of the opposition candidate? Was it just a calculation that went wrong for him? Can we say it just happened without the influence of external forces? The beauty about this scenario is that all these unanswered questions have an equal chance of being the right question connecting to this.
To provide a chance of clarification, if not full, this article will run through the possibility of his disqualification being a political propaganda or the supremacy of the constitution or both.
A Rain of Political Propaganda?
The presence of opposition in a certain election births term like democracy, rigorous campaigns, adventure, run of attacks and the likes. In such scenario, it is impossible to neglect the fact that a candidate can work out ways of ensuring the other candidate loses. That’s where you see several rumored attacks that fly around about every candidacy which might be either true or false. But you can’t erase the possibility of cooked up stories. It is also essential to know that majority of these framed and tricky tactics spur out from the camp of a candidate supporters.
The fact that Mazi has an opponent already justified the possibility of this option. Even though the findings of the FLC Programme and Implementation Monitoring Committee (PIMC) were part of the allegations that dragged Mazi to the hands of the disciplinary committee, we can’t erase the impact of that petition from former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Usman Bolarinwa. The petition, in some style, made the whole allegations too serious which prompted and painted the matter in a big picture.
Also, the petition was really timely that it was submitted on Friday, February 23, which was a day to the FLC sitting and also the last day of the Nuesa Dean’s Cup. To say it wasn’t pre-planned and strategic will be like ignoring a house on fire. The former speaker being an intellect of the constitution knew what will befall the former sports director with that petition. This guided the timing of the submission and its processes with PIMC findings.
Again, that the former speaker is from the camp of Mazi’s opponent – Brazien – raises concerns of the true shade of that petition. Was it a petition centered on punishing the former sports director for his offenses or a petition directed and planned towards his eventual disqualification? There’s a possibility that this petition has been termed to be political propaganda. We can’t deny it, we know it is.
Supremacy of the Constitution?
After getting alleged of three different count of charges – improper expenditure, extra-budgetary and accepting sponsorship directly into his personal account – which were all found serious in line with the constitution, there was a need to take disciplinary actions. Also, According to Chapter 3, Article 1 of the ESEC 24 Electoral Act, a candidate must be free from any disciplinary or criminal records deemed serious by the Election Commission.
Constitutionally, you have to align with the fact that the former sports director is not close to being worthy of running as a presidential candidate. Having such an individual, who has been alleged of several offenses, become the Nuesa-UI President will spell detriment on the integrity of the entire association. It will also in such light portray the kind of credibility and image all educators stand to defend.
Even though he was said to have accounted for both the budgetary and sponsorship funds, the fact that he went on disarray by working against the constitution spell alot on his constitutional knowledge and leadership role. To these varying effects, his disqualification obviously suffered from both the influx of political propaganda and the supremacy of the constitution.
ASSE Invincibles played their last group match game against WPE/IPE who are just playing their first group game in the Survival Cup, at the SUB Main pitch on Monday 4th of March 2024.
The match ended in a goalless draw after an impressive performance from both sides. However, they both failed to find the back of the net.
An invincible defender, Akinola, was sent off in the second half due to an abusive gesture he made towards the referee. Despite the incident, WPE/IPE players were unable to utilize their chances after playing against 10-man.
ASSE invincibles’ chances of qualifying for the next round of the tournament are slim, after two draws in two group matches and a Red card at hand.
