The Education Students’ Electoral Commission (ESEC) has on the morning of Tuesday, March 05, 2024 announced the disqualification of Emmanuel Olamide Samuel (Mazi), aspirant for the post of Nuesa-UI President, from the 2024 Nuesa Election race after he was found to have committed serious offenses as Nuesa Sport Director.
Recall that the disciplinary committee of the Nuesa FLC found the former sports director guilty of three counts of charges and as such sanctioned him to two weeks community service at Jaja Clinic and a letter of apology to all educators.
Owing to this, the electoral committee found the three counts of charges serious in line with the constitution which warrant his disqualification. The count of Improper Expenditure as found in Article XXII, Section II, Extra-budgetary as found in Article VI, Section III, Sub-section H and Accepting sponsorship directly into his account as found in Article XIV, Section VI.
It should be noted that Emmanuel Olamide Samuel took part in the election screening held on Saturday, March 02 where he had a score of 66.9 and had also resigned from his position as the Nuesa Sports Director after he declared his ambition to run from the post of the Nuesa-UI President.
At the Nuesa FLC emergency sitting held on Sunday, March 03, 2024, the house has cleared the recent Nuesa Sports Director, Emmanuel Olamide Samuel, from allegations of funds embezzlement and accusations petitioned against him. As such, he has been sanctioned to 2 weeks of community service after being found guilty of three counts of charges.
Recall that the house directed its disciplinary committee to embark on a 10 days investigation and deliberation on the matter after it received a petition from the former Nuesa FLC, Rt. Hon. Usman Bolarinwa, against the Former Sports Director on several counts that surround mismanagement of the Nuesa Dean’s Cup’24 and to a report by the Nuesa FLC PIMC, after he was found to have engaged in improper account of Nuesa Dean’s Cup funds.
Owing to the report of the disciplinary committee at the emergency plenary session, the house has found him not to be guilty of funds embezzlement and also not guilty of all allegations levied against him in the petition as there was nothing to prove he committed those offenses.
Also, the house through the report of the disciplinary committee found him to have committed three offenses ranging from improper expenditure, extra budgetary to accepting sponsorship directly into his personal account.
To the above counts, he was sanctioned to two weeks of compulsory community service at the University Health Service Center (Jaja Clinic) beginning from Monday, March 04, 2024 and a letter of apology to educators within 48 hours of the verdict.
The signed press release of the Nuesa FLC stated that the former Sports Director accounted for all funds including the approved budget for the Nuesa Deans Cup ’24 and sponsorship gained for the competition.
Owing to the recent resolution of the Union of Campus Journalist, University of Ibadan Senate, on its decision to remove Oladigboolu Taofeek from his position as the Editor-in-Chief of Nuesa press and disclaimed as a campus journalist, there seem to be multiple plays as expected, or say unexpected from some party.
Let’s save ourselves from the story of how the clear and well detailed charges petitioned against him contained in the clarified 114 pages petition sent to the UCJ UI Senate. Let’s drive our focus to the recent play from the camp of Nuesa FLC. On the morning of Monday, March 04, 2024, two days after UCJUI Senate’s resolution and public disclaimer, the house launched a questionable and vague release that seeks to question the verdict passed by the UCJUI Senate.
Here, it’s necessary to open the eyes of the public and FLC members to some clarifications. These clarifications will as a matter of fact question the press release of the Nuesa FLC after it’s claimed ‘online emergency sitting’ yesterday night.
One, there is a clear legal statement (backed by the Nuesa and UCJ constitution) that expressly stresses the independence of the press to run its affairs and make its own decisions. That the Nuesa FLC is even trying to question the resolution of UCJUI Senate, which is the highest decision making body of UCJUI will be termed a FLC with a question mark on their knowledge if they can’t clearly understand the concept of independence.
Two, that after reading through a petition of 114 pages filled with several pieces of evidence to back every count of allegations placed on the former Nuesa Press E-in-C and still felt the 5 hours sitting of the UCJ Senate was just a run of play, their knowledge of what they possess should be questioned. Perhaps the Nuesa FLC are ignorant of the fact that Oladigbolu Taofeek before the UCJ Senate disciplinary committee and UCJ Senators admitted to every of the allegations placed against him in the petition.
Three, there is a skeleton in the cupboard of Nuesa FLC; say the Nuesa FLC Speaker. That the Nuesa FLC Speaker was at the UCJ Senate Sitting to stand as witness for Mr. Oladigbolu Taofeek on allegations placed against him signified the position of the Speaker and say, the Nuesa FLC. This kind of attitude and reaction from the Nuesa FLC further spell the position of the house to being on the side of Mr. Taofeek Oladigbolu on the allegations placed against him; most especially the misappropriation of funds and the paddling of the Nuesa Press Budget.
It should also be noted that an evidence was submitted by Mr. Taofeek on Saturday which bears the office of the Nuesa FLC. The evidence was a statement of clarification that seeks to address the budget having two figures of 132,550 and 110,100 naira. With these aligning connections, it’s safe to say the Nuesa FLC are on tab to really question the resolution of the UCJ Senate and see it as false.
Now to the FLC call for investigation. Does Nuesa FLC have the authority to even venture into the investigation? Technically No. It is a No as Nuesa FLC cannot have a hand on those who signed the petition. Here’s the explanation. Nuesa FLC’s only concern (the items they can investigate on) are the allegations on funds misappropriation and budget paddling. Both allegations can only be explained and explained by the alleged individual as he was the only one that drafted, received and presented the budget. As far as the allegations Nuesa FLC can investigate is concerned, they have insufficient tools to launch that investigation.
The UCJ Senate has done enough justice to tick the dots and run through the petition. For Nuesa FLC, staying interested and launching an investigation on the matter speaks of their questionable stance on this already solved issue.
The Education Students’ Electoral Commission (ESEC’24) has on Sunday, March 03, 2024 reopen the sales of nomination form for the post of Financial Secretary.
The information was passed via a statement released by the commission which was shared across WhatsApp groups and signed by the Chairman, Commissioner Johnson Phillip.
The new development was birthed as a result of the disqualification of the initial aspirant for the post of Financial Secretary, Olalekan Abimbola Ayobami, at the screening held yesterday, March 02, 2024. Olalekan Abimbola had a score of 41.8 which didn’t meet the peg 50% for screening qualification.
The release by the commission also included the requirements for the position and also a form price of 5,000 naira.
At the Teacher Education Christian Fellowship Handing (TECF) Over service held on Friday, March 01, 2024, the fellowship has commissioned the new set of executives that will see to the affairs of the fellowship for the next session.

Dr. Ife and Dr. Babalola stressed on the importance of working in unity and oneness. They both made explanations of what the new executives seek to benefit in associating with love and like minds. Through this, there will be growth in the fellowship which will reflect in their own lives.
For Dr. Lawrence, he charged the outgoing Executives, led by Ayoade Oluwatimileyin, not to see this as the end of the journey. They should start seeing it as a start to something great.
Outgone Executives
Below are the names and portfolio of the new executives;
As Nuesa elections draw nearer, the atmosphere styles electric for the great show ranging from screening to press night to manifesto and the election day. Owing to the recent Electoral Act Release by the Education Students’ Electoral Commission 2024 (ESEC’24), it is necessary to point out some key items as well as changes in the document.
Voter’s Requirement
In Chapter 2, Article 1 of the electoral act, the requirement to qualify as a voter for the coming election is to first be a student of the faculty and likewise possess a valid ID Card that proves such membership.
Aspirant’s Requirement
According to the first part of Chapter 3, Article 1, any educator aspiring for a position at the faculty level must be on a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) not less than second class lower – 2.2.
Aspirant in Disciplinary Action
In the same Chapter 3, second part of Article 1 of the Electoral act, all candidates/aspirants must be free from any disciplinary action or criminal record. It also means that any aspirant who is currently under investigation at the time of screening is not qualified as a candidate.
Unopposed Candidate
As against the former pronouncement of what an unopposed candidate must possess in terms of votes to be declared winner, there’s a new change. According to Chapter 4, Article 3 of the Act, an unopposed candidate must pull a ⅓ of the total votes to be declared the winner of such a position. Recall that the former Act of 2023 requires ⅔.
Screening Score
It’s pertinent to state that the screening score benchmark is still pegged at 50%. This can be found in Chapter 3, Article 2 of the document. This means that any candidate who failed to score up to 50% in the electoral screening shall be disqualified from the election race.
Payment of Fines
In Chapter 6, Article 1 and 2, provision has been made for candidates who violate any of the electoral law shall be made to pay fines or even disqualified owing to the weight of the offense. Also, the fines will be in the range of 5,000 to 10,000 naira.
To begin with, note that this article only seeks the truth and becomes necessary based on popular demand. The style of the tone it portrays will be different as it is not a Satire. It will refer to names and also include pictures as proof of some points. It doesn’t seek to add more petrol to fire, it only comes to light as a result of its necessity. The writer and the press outrightly distance themselves from any talk of affection for any candidate.
In the past few days, it has been a facade of who to who, men to men, ambition vs endorsement, personal goal vs general goal, what-we-want vs what-I-want, battle upon battle and also, the loss of focus. It’s a wide story largely consumed by all – not only educators but the entire university community. In the manner of diverse opinions and the task of utmost clarifications, it has become a point of relevance to open the face of the matter and take a look at the varying degrees.
In previous write-ups that spur the links of how the department stakeholders made a supposed conclusive resolution on endorsing Sammy over Daraj with measures like commitment, past records and credibility, which seem unacceptable by ‘party Daraj’, it clearly show the face of how the strong will of the stakeholders seeks an atmosphere of authority.
Obviously, that authority was questioned due to some certain reasons. One, that the formation of the stakeholders had a question mark. Two, that Daraj originally betrayed the department in the last election when he supported Gucci who ran against Paulism, who is of Daraj’s department. Three, that it was termed to be a gang and a game of retaliation from the camp of the stakeholders to Daraj. To these variabilities, the authority of the stakeholders were put under question.
As to make a stance and regain the lost ‘one voice’, it becomes necessary to uphold their voice. Leading to the question of freedom to contest, the importance of endorsement, the weight of stakeholders, two aspirants of a particular position coming from a department, and what the constitution or electoral act says becomes the new measure. Making headlines of various talks was also the function of if Daraj was initially forced to step down during the process after the stakeholders failed to endorse him.
Was Daraj Forced to Step Down?
To Daraj’s camp, they believe everyone has the freedom to contest regardless of who the endorsement term favors. They feel an individual has the right to this franchise in as much as meet the criteria of a candidacy under the ESEC electoral act. To the other camp, which style to be the voice of the stakeholders and whom most people feel are the ‘party Sammy’ are of the strict stance that whosoever the department does not endorse cannot contest, all for the sake of a win-win ride the department is focused on.
To answer the question of if he was at some point forced to step down, after moves to run even though he wasn’t endorsed, cannot be given a direct answer. But there are instances where it showed that he was compelled to initially step down after some external factor came into the matter. Daraj, as reported, privately chatted with some of his top supporters indicating he isn’t running for the position anymore due to the inability to get a freedom to contest from the department.

Further revelations show that the announcement he made above was not a decision from his heart. It shows the decision was made out of several clashes with the stakeholders. The below further reveals the tension that surrounds his decision to make such a move.

It was also seen that even after he made the announcement to initially step down, which he sent to some people’s DM, some of his supporters still pushed on to keep on making the awareness campaign for Daraj.
Daraj’s campaign BC sent to a group after he initially stepped down
The ideas of the stakeholders are respectively understood and as of tradition; expected to stand. But the mysterious event of what is transpiring again tends to witness two strong aspirants from the same department who are not ready to succumb to their personal ambition for unity. Even if any succumb at his will, will the unity still stand? Considering the bank of supporters who have been the fuel pushing candidates to be due hard on that vision they aspire. To the stakeholders, they never at any point forced Daraj to initially step down. It was based on agreement.
When Sammy was asked on his view of being partially favored or not, he claimed the resolution of the stakeholders on who to endorsed was based on some measures which he successfully met. Likewise, Paulism also threw a straight NO to the clamour of the stakeholders partially favoring Sammy over Daraj.

A Game of Retaliation?
Several guns have been shot from the interpretations of what transpired. Being a prodigal son, the scenario has been tagged to being one of retaliation. Many people feel a high percentage of the stakeholders favors Sammy because he is a member of the current Assesa executives and that Daraj betrayed Paulism (during the last election) who is now a top stakeholder of the department.
Such a connection was born from some reasons. One, that the stance of his betrayal to the department has to be tabled and used as a criteria for endorsement consideration. Two, that the weight of such wrongs cost the department to lose the Nuesa presidential seat last session. These points are normal and quite understandable. But the idea of the outright rejection of Daraj to even contest on his name without the department support spells retaliation.
One then tends to start debating if it is right for this party to retaliate or not. To the Daraj camp, they are of the strong notion that the rejection of Daraj by the stakeholders is solely based on retaliation and not the three mentioned quotas of commitment, track of record and credibility.
From Daraj’s Camp on claims that it’s a game of retaliation
For now, we shall stop here. In the next episode of THE REVELATIONS, the word NEMESIS styles on top. It keeps on dancing high and high. The question is, IS THIS NEMESIS A FALSE OR TRUE CAUSE? DOES IT HAVE A CONNECTION TO THE PRESENT DRAMA? We shall see. Stay tuned.

During the recent management retreat in Lagos, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, emphasized the relevance of accurate data in realizing President Bola Tinubu’s eight-point agenda.
Coker-Odusote highlighted that NIMC’s efforts aim to provide every Nigerian with a distinct identity number, facilitating access to governmental services and benefits. President Bola Tinubu’s agenda prioritizes security, job creation, infrastructure development, and poverty alleviation. The NIMC DG underscored the significance of accurate data, emphasizing its role in guiding informed governmental decisions and actions aligned with these agenda objectives.
Coker-Odusote disclosed that the commission had registered more than 104 million Nigerians and was currently engaged in efforts to register the rest of the population. She explained that they were in the process of launching an online modification platform portal, which was currently undergoing internal testing. She mentioned that it was in the production stage and was being reviewed by their quality assurance and quality control units. She added that once finalized, it would be launched live within a week.
Coker-Odusote explained that the purpose of setting up the portal was to enable individuals to perform modifications online themselves. She described it as a self-service platform designed for local accessibility. She emphasized that it eliminated the need to visit NIMC offices or any other location. Furthermore, she expressed their commitment to introducing a pre-enrollment service shortly. She outlined the process, stating that individuals could enroll online, input their information, and then visit the centers for biometric capture. She estimated that the pre-enrollment service would be operational before the end of March.
The Director-General of NIMC reiterated the commission’s dedication to facilitating President’s goal of enhancing government-citizen engagement and ensuring all citizens benefit from his administration. She emphasized NIMC’s role in issuing NIN to every citizen, highlighting its significance in bridging the gap between the government and the populace by granting access to services. The DG stressed the importance of utilizing NIN for various governmental endeavors, noting its pivotal role in combating fraud and identity theft. According to Coker-Odusote, NIN facilitates efficient payment tracking, ensuring funds reach the rightful recipients and preventing issues like ghost payments.
Additionally, she disclosed that a pre-enrollment platform aimed at streamlining the process of acquiring the National Identity Number would be introduced soon. This platform will enable individuals seeking to obtain NIN to complete the process online by entering their information and then visit nearby centers for biometric capture.

Ambassadors of tyranny Ambition killers Antagonist of success Agonising fellows Assaulters of great height Assassins of wisdom
I have heard of their evil I have seen their evil I have smelt their evil I have felt their evil I have tasted first hand evil
They act like they are for you Speed on we would help you But they throw pebbles and broken glasses They sing praises of you But all lies, they murder you With their lying twisted tongues Swizzling like Voldemort’s
When will we see them no more? They are the ones we rest on They are the ones we rely on For wisdom For shield For support For knowledge And for the betterment of our lives But look at us
They have killed our dreams Murdered our unborn Squeezed out all we want to become Inflicted us with fear They have even turned us on one another They have made us lame They have made us wingless They have made us voiceless
The riches our land holds is our birthrights. The birthrights of even the unborn and the far-gone born. How cruel you large-eyed men Claim our birthrights as yours only?
Calling yourselves the people’s-men. You devour feeds for thousands bellies To your shallow guts. And snatch the stakes for million heads To your heavy pockets. How cruel you!
You robbed our wits with the deceit called democracy. Choose your self-serving selves our leaders With your shoulders erected in pride And tongues adorned with futile promises. You said to surrender yourselves the sacrificial ones to set us free And make our living as blossom as unworthy of end.
Again, you power-starved men Dared to take away our own sowed fruits harvested in bitter labour. You dared to put boiling tears on the cheeks of our golds and silvers. Weep to the lips of our innocent little ones. Famine to our feed-bowls. Emptiness to our craving hearts. Anger to our joyful faces. And pointlessness to our hard-work.
Josephine Awomodu Engaging in academic pursuits can be both exhilarating and challenging as it involves expanding knowledge and honing skills while navigating potential stressors. Hence, safeguarding your mental well-being during study periods is paramount. Whether you are preparing for an exam or pursuing long-term educational goals, maintaining a balance between academic endeavors and self-care can be demanding.
1. Establish a structured study routine Commencing any study regimen with a well-defined schedule is foundational. Adhering to a consistent routine aids in safeguarding mental health. By delineating dedicated study periods and adhering to them, you optimise productivity and mitigate stress. Structuring study sessions into time-bound intervals—such as studying uninterrupted for 15-20 minutes followed by a brief 5-minute break—enhances concentration and efficiency, thereby effectively managing stress levels.
2. Prioritise relaxation Acknowledging the inherent stress of academic pursuits is crucial. Whether grappling with exam anxiety or fretting over academic progress, prolonged periods of stress can detrimentally impact mental and physical well-being. Chronic stress leaves a suppressive influence on the immune system. Allocating time for relaxation is as imperative as dedicating oneself to study. Failure to afford the body adequate relaxation jeopardises the efficacy of study efforts. Thus, integrating relaxation activities—such as seeing a movie or video, meditation, leisurely walks, or indulging in a soothing bubble bath—into one’s routine is indispensable.
3. Incorporate regular study breaks The finite attention span of your human brain underscores the necessity of periodic study breaks. Extensive research elucidates that sustained periods of uninterrupted study yield diminishing returns. Hence, integrating brief breaks at hourly intervals is paramount. Utilising these breaks to disengage from screens and engage in physical activities—such as stretching or a brisk walk—enhances cognitive function and alleviates stress.
4. Embrace quality sleep Despite the allure of late-night study sessions or social engagements, prioritising adequate sleep is non-negotiable. The Sleep Foundation underscores the pivotal role of sleep in cognitive function, emotional regulation, and academic performance. Striving for a minimum of 8 hours of nightly sleep fosters optimal academic outcomes. Implementing conducive sleep practices—such as establishing a bedtime routine, minimising screen time, and optimising sleep environments— facilitates restorative sleep patterns essential for mental well-being.
5. Engage in outdoor physical activity Incorporating regular exercise, particularly outdoor pursuits, is instrumental in safeguarding mental health amidst academic endeavors. Physical activity serves as a potent stress reliever that bolsters concentration and sleep quality. Prioritising outdoor activities— such as jogging, cycling, or swimming— augments exposure to fresh air. This helps to amplify the benefits of exercise on mental well-being. By implementing these holistic strategies, you can fortify your mental resilience and ensure optimal well-being during periods of academic pursuit.
6. Eating mentally healthy diets During exams, prioritise your mental health by eating nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Stay hydrated and avoid excessive sugary snacks to maintain focus and energy levels. As a student, your well-being matters as much as your grades.
On Wednesday, the US Dollar witnessed a significant decline of 6.45 percent, falling to N1,450 from the previous N1,550 on the parallel market, commonly known as the black market. This abrupt change followed the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) decision to increase the interest rate on Tuesday.
The CBN implemented a substantial hike in its benchmark interest rate, the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR), by 400 basis points, elevating it to 22.75 percent from the previous 18.75 percent set in July 2023. Resultantly, the Naira experienced a noteworthy appreciation of 6.89 percent, with the US Dollar plunging to N1,450 on Wednesday, in contrast to the N1,550 recorded on Tuesday on the black market.
However, the influence of the interest rate hike has not yet manifested in the official foreign exchange (FX) rates. On Tuesday, the naira depreciated by 2.04 percent, with the dollar quoted at N1,615.94, compared to N1,582.94 on Monday at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), according to data from FMDQ.
In spot trading on Tuesday, the intraday high strengthened to N1,778 per dollar, marking an improvement from N1,805/$1 on Monday. Similarly, the intraday low showed a marginal firming, shifting to N1,300 on Tuesday from the previous N1,301 per dollar. Despite these fluctuations, the daily FX market turnover experienced a 7.45 percent decline, totaling $154.16 million on Tuesday, down from the $166.58 million recorded on Monday.
The existence of a democratic state has changed a lot in the structure of the society giving ways to a free society marked by government of the people, by the people and for the people. The idea of government by the people implies a periodic election to selecting the qualified leader after a thorough look into their potentials and qualifications.
When a glance is given to what democracy implies, we view it from the lens of macro level deviating from its coverage and extending down to the micro level. A society craves for a leader with a gel of good leadership and truthfulness to truly serve the interest of the people. With the lift of democracy, a special avenue is given to the people to extend their franchise through picking the leader who has intendedly crafted their manifestos to fit into the needs of the people.
In this instance, the society is marked as “Democratic” as the level of freedom has been given to the citizens to freely pick for themselves. But in negation to this, if the leaders are therefore picked or selected without involving the people then the society will be painted with colour of “deprivation and lack of transparency”.
The state will be viewed particularly with an insatiable glance and leave the people in the democratic state with a weakened soul. People are seen clamoring and protesting for what they are deprived of and hoping for rectification and restoration to the image the society has attained. This protest is a way for them to call the state into consciousness of what it is theirs and cant be taken from them.
Whatever It is that will later grow into bounty will start from a small bound. The political practices start right from the engagement of two people who have the same interests and bring down another to succumb to his own interest. Ruling, leadership and representation start from a micro level up to the larger level, it can be viewed in a hypocritical way for the people at the root to act in an unwelcome display the leaders are warned upon. If at the micro (school, organization), a leader embezzled money what would it be like at the mass level.
In the school setting, the action of selecting or choosing candidates who are to serve the interest of the people without being subjected to the necessary procedure that includes the masses participation is a slap to the face. A democratic state which most are aware about should not only be instilled in the head but in the action of catering for the affairs of the people. Hence, going through flexibility and a fair operation will make governing smooth and not regrettable.
The freedom of the masses is very important in every aspect of life, be it at the highest leadership stage or the lowest. The lowest engagement is a sign or a conclusion to what an individual can establish at the higher level. The leaders are not bosses who make decisions without carrying people along as a result of sending servants to work.
A leader cares for the emotion of the people and engages in ensuring the good affairs of the people in the state. A leader serves; they serve the people and they are only chosen to represent the people’s interest as the whole people can’t put themselves in such a position. So to select representation is a good freedom of the people which is totally not to be denied of them.
Just when we think we have seen enough drama amongst our executives of the faculty of Education, we have yet another beautiful episode. Sit back and relax.
The tale of Team Edge is one that doesn’t look to be ending anytime soon. From the good party vibes of vincoulo to Edu Got Talent, it has also got some “not-so-funny” stories from last semester’s package and now, we have another episode of this session-long movie series. There have been stories and news flying round that the Edge administration has reportedly claimed that educators who are usually entitled to their packages after initially paying their dues at different levels during the session will likely not get a package this session as there are claims the economy is too hard to provide PACKAGE.
It tends to be surprising that this administration actually came out to say such a thing. It has left some educators gossiping and some others infuriated. What further got educators enraged is when news got out that they are reportedly aiming to redirect the money initially meant for the educators’ package into producing “a more standard ” book. Another sect of educators are flabbergasted by this as they find it funny.
In an effort to collect random views of what educators think through an interview with the students from different levels, a 100 level student who prefers to remain anonymous said even with the economy, the executives can still get to something. She also referenced hall packages and dept as well, posing a question of “what if every institution we paid dues to just decides to give books?” While stating the fact that books are an essential part of a students life in university, there could still be something more.
In an interview with a student in 300 level, he also expressed his displeasure at the executives using the economy as an excuse to not get a package but a “standard book.” He stated that the economy is also affecting the students, because it’s not that easy to pay dues. He said it doesn’t have to be flashy, but bringing it to a mere “standard” book. He also stated that if they want to give us a standard book, due to the economy, they might as well not ask us to pay dues due to the economy, because people sourced for these funds to pay dues.
With another fellow educator from the department of Science and Technology Education, he expressed an aggravated form of displeasure in thinking that after struggling to pay dues in trying times, he doesn’t get what he wanted. Imagine how a finalist will feel after he has finished 4+ years of writing, he gets rewarded with a book. When a finalist from the aforementioned department was asked, he said “why should I still be getting a book after I’m done with my course of study? Am I going to use my so-called standard book to write during my NYSC programme?”
It is surely without a doubt that it’s not a welcomed idea by educators. It is impossible that there can’t be as little as a plastic fan as a package for educators even in this economic turmoil. It is definitely impossible to come to the conclusion that there’s nothing else for them to give to educators as packages. A common handkerchief or a hand towel is one off the top of an idea; but making a claim that there’s no package simply because the economy is too hard is too audacious one might think.
This again has placed further inquiry and doubt as to whether team edge is fit enough to actually deliver. In having a dialogue with a finalist of a department she wished to remain anonymous, she explained that if funds were minimized at the previous semester’s colorful events, perhaps there won’t be an excuse for educators not to get a package this semester. Some educators, in frustration, have also come out to anonymously voice out by saying that if they were asked to make a pic between a “measly standard” book and a package, they would go for the latter. This would make one wonder if Team Edge is truly acting in the best interest of the educators, or they are concerned with doing things just to trend by catching the eyes of Uites.
This will no doubt be a slap on the face of the executive administration as they are reportedly about to do something jaw-dropping. Some educators have expressed disappointment and regret in paying dues this session and wouldn’t have given it a second’s thought if it wasn’t a prerequisite towards getting our respective course forms approved by the faculty. How will this packageless semester look like in the eyes of educators who struggled to pay dues even in these trying times?
It’s funny but perhaps it is better to remind Team Edge that it wasn’t easy for students to pay dues. They had better wake up from their sorry dreams as a “standard book” is not enough to cut out as a substitute, because under normal circumstances, isn’t the book package supposed to be standard?
Even if you are the worst speaker in the whole UI or you’re only seen on campus when it’s exam or test time, there is a high tendency that you will try to adjust if your bestie wakes up one day and tells you they’re going for a post. If you can’t relate with the first scenario, I’m 100% sure a random person has once approached you at the faculty lounge to get you to support their political ambition. No doubt, these attest to the fact that politics is an indispensable part of our studentship in the university of Ibadan. Still, regardless of the fact that we all have to get involved with politics and we have the right to our political ideologies, it’s important to place humanity over anything else.
Everyone is privy to the current political atmosphere in the department and the faculty in general but this article isn’t meant to judge who is right or wrong. It’s just to take us down a memory lane, to remind us of who we were before the whole saga and make us envision who will intend to be or seen as when the chips are down.
Definitely, everyone has the right to their own political ideology but we shouldn’t let that affect our relationship with others because there’s more to schooling and life than politics. We still have our whole lives ahead and as such, this is one of the best times to build strong connections that have the potential to last a lifetime and come through for us in difficult situations. Or do you want a situation where you’ll see yourselves in the future and take separate ways over a post that won’t even last up to a year?
You may wonder how possible it is to be friends with people even if you have varying political views. Well, it is but it won’t come on a platter of gold. For this to happen, you must be ready to exercise patience and manage your emotions. The most interesting part is that people management is not a skill you only need in college. You will have to work in organizations with colleagues from different parts of the country, remember?
Suppose you have friends who share the same political ideology as yours, congratulations! Still, that doesn’t mean you don’t have the tendency to make some political mistakes. You should avoid this by avoiding the use of propaganda to spoil other people’s political aspirations. It’s okay to have a different view and try to make people see things from your point of you. But in all you do, never resolve the use of false information to get people on your side.
What about when you hear stories online? Don’t be so quick to judge! Whether it’s about your preferred candidate or an opponent, ensure you hear from both sides before making your final decision. As human beings, it’s normal to be emotional but we mustn’t let our emotions get the best of us. It’s hard controlling it but we tend to give preference to people we’re familiar with. Fortunately, we can overcome this if we’re open minded.
Apparently, many are struggling deciding who their choice of political candidate should be since the candidates involved are friends or acquaintances. In this case, the best solution is to go over their manifestos and see which resonates with you best. Afterall, what matters most is what each candidate has to offer and how their goals will impact the growth of the student body.
Rather than incite people against each other, the more profitable way to make candidates more qualified is by giving them insights on how to be great leaders and encouraging them to attend beneficial leadership summits as well. Many aspirants nowadays are apparently more concerned about their personal gains that they forget to equip themselves with the necessary skills they need to perform excellently.
Will we still be able to make decisions that will be beneficial to the entire student body if student leadership is scrapped? Who will voice our concerns to the faculty management and do their best to ensure changes are made? Will we still be able to organize tutorials, gyrate, socialize and empower ourselves? Therefore, it’s important for us to stay away from activities that can make the faculty management suspend political activities within the premises of our prestigious faculty.
In this section of celebrating Assesaites who are exploring and doing amazingly well for themselves in the aspect of entrepreneur, the focus of this space shifts to 200lv where we had a session with Adewuyi Folashade of Folathreadings.
Adewuyi Folashade is a fashion designer who also engages in customizing tote bags, bottles and the like. She took us through the tick and thing if it all and also shared her takes on aspiring studentpreneur.
Interviewer: Good day, My name is Eniola, a member of the Assesa press. I would like to have a short interview session with you as regards being a studentpreneur. We see that you’re a student and you’re still able to merge academics and business and we commend you for that. Without further ado, can you introduce yourself and tell us what you do?
Folathreadings: Thank you very much. My name is Adewuyi Folashade, a 200 level student of Art and Social sciences Education, Edu/history to be precise. I’m into fashion designing but basically I make customized tote bags, bottles, beanies etc. My brand name is Folathreadings.
Interviewer: Folathreadings, Beautiful. So tell us how you started the business, I remember you said you are a fashion designer and that could have pushed you into making these wonderful customized pieces. Also, what year did you start officially?
Folathreadings: Okay. Let me start by saying I started this business in February 2021, the year we resumed as undergraduates of the university of Ibadan. I knew what I was coming for. I started this business alongside my academic journey and it’s been a smooth ride. Initially, getting customers was pretty difficult for me as there were lots of people into the business. However, I didn’t give up, I remained consistent, I knew it’s a competitive business that demands you put in your best to get the best. Basically, being a fashion designer heightened my creative skills.
Interviewer: Fantastic! I’ve learnt something from what you said, “Don’t limit yourself”. There are a lot of people in the same business just like you, it’s your level of hard work, creativity and consistency that would make you stand out .
Folathreadings: Thank you very much.
Interviewer: I know there is no business that doesn’t have its ups and downs. So, can you tell me, what are the difficulties and challenges you have experienced so far in this business or has it been a smooth ride?
Folathreadings: Basically, I have never experienced any difficulties or challenges in my business apart from when I started when it was difficult to get customers and that is expected but so far, it has been a smooth ride.
Interviewer: If not making customized products, what else would you have gone for? Also, what do you think makes you brand unique?
Folathreadings: I’m a fashion designer because it’s what I learned initially, so it’s fashion designing. Also, the uniqueness of my business is the quality we give and we are always ready to serve our customers, making them comfortable and giving them the best.
Interviewer: What is your greatest motivation? What has made you stand on your toes all these years even during challenging times?
Folathreadings: I have been pushing my business because I don’t want to be broke, my greatest fear is poverty, the fear of poverty motivates me to put in all my energy.
Interviewer: Hmmm. To the last question. What advice would you give to potential studentpreneur?
Folathreadings: I would say that ‘consistency is the key and giving up is never the option’.
Interviewer: That’s a strong word. Thanks for your time.
As the weight of this very discussion seems to portray a heap of controversies interpreted as injustice and clarity, it becomes a matter of necessity to open the cards and check for appropriate ticks. In some manner, we always clamor for a society that expresses a will of transparency, fairness and equal representation for all. How well can we then say we’ve displayed and did justice to it all if our actions are still being left to end with a question mark? As we operate here in the model of the normal world, it further simplifies to mean that actions exhibited in this small space will definitely at one point or the other materialize to a greater course of action in a bigger environment. As there are doubts, let’s unravel the links.
Following the final of the Nuesa Dean’s Cup that was played between Arts and Social Sciences Education Department (ASSE) and Human Kinetics Department (KHE) on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the SUB Pitch, the connection of that event to the ongoing UISU Super Cup has established a ground that pose doubts. As known, the winner of that final match, KHE, went on to represent education in the Super Cup which has so far raised concerns and questions the integrity of the Nuesa Sports Director, Emmanuel Olamide Samuel, to the timing of the dean’s cup and representation quota.
Concerns have been raised on whether it is right from KHE to represent education in the UISU Super Cup as “Last winner” of the dean’s cup or it should have been ASSE as “Last Session Winner” of the competition. The manner at which the Nuesa Dean’s Cup came about, activities surrounding the onset and conclusion of the competition, and the level at which the management and organization of the Dean’s Cup went will not allow the space to trust that ‘all is well’. As there are doubts, let’s pick up the doubts under 5 talking points.
UISU Super Cup Timing
According to the UI Students’ Union Sports Director, Omokukpo Etana, all sports directors were aware of the Super Cup and its rationale from the beginning of the session. Meaning that the competition isn’t just coming out of the blue, it has been planned right from start. It should be noted here that anything called ‘Super Cup’ definitely has to celebrate the last winner of a particular competition or set of competitions before the onset of another. Put in simple way; as England Community Shield is a Super Cup match between the immediate winner of the English Premier League and FA Cup of a concluding season before the commencement of another.
Under the same light, it could be agreed upon that what the UISU seeks to celebrate is to have a league of last winners of the Dean’s cup in each faculty come together and play knockout matches prior to the onset of another set of Dean’s cups for this session. Meaning that the UISU Super Cup is meant to be played before the commencement of any faculty’s Dean’s Cup. It was planned to come before as it seeks to celebrate the last winners of the Dean’s cup before each faculty begins another for the current session.
For proof, the timing of this Super Cup explains it all. The Super Cup is fixed to this kind of week period which is very close to when each faculty will begin their respective Dean’s cup; this tell of what it represents. Also, as of the commencement of the competition on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, out of 16 faculties, only the faculty of Law, Education and Clinical Sciences have had their Dean’s cup for this session. This proves that the Super Cup timing seeks to recognize last session winners of Dean’s cup.
NUESA Dean’s Cup Timing
One tends to raise the question of why the Nuesa Dean’s Cup came so early this session. Of the last 2-3 sessions, the Nuesa Dean’s Cup has always been played a week or two prior to Nuesa Week. To rally this, the final of last session’s Dean’s cup was played on the sports day of the Nuesa Week. The question still remains: why did the Nuesa Dean’s Cup come earlier than expected?
When the question was thrown to the Speaker of the Faculty, he replied – though unsure and skeptical – that the Sports Director wanted to organize the Dean’s cup as early as possible so that he can focus on his ambition to run for the faculty president as he needs to resign. Again, this raises further questions. Rushing the Dean’s Cup timing because of his personal ambition is not a valid argument. Why jeopardize that for his personal goal? At no point should his personal ambition have affected the Dean’s Cup.
Now, the Dean’s cup which was played affected the representation quota of education at the Super Cup. You will also tend to doubt if his personal ambition was even the reason the timing was of such, one cannot also erase the thought of “if the Sports Director intentionally fixed the Dean’s cup to such timing so as to tamper with the Super Cup representation’. Again, one cannot at any point erase such doubt.
Last Winner vs Last Session’s Winner
The UISU Sports Director expressed that the goal of the competition is to bring together last winners of each faculty’s Dean’s cup winner and define a champion of champions. The definition of ‘last winner’ styles to be more than a denotative usage. As reported before, only three faculties have a latest winner for this session’s Dean’s cup which means that for fair representation and also to glorify the definition of the competition, all last session winners should have been made to compete for this tournament in as much as the competition will be on a sessional basis.
As KHE went on to represent education as ‘last winner’ and not ‘last session winners’, it then raised a very significant question. Who then represents education in next session’s UISU Super Cup if it comes before (which is meant to be) the Nuesa Dean’s Cup? KHE again? As last winners? The timing of the Dean’s Cup already altered the representation quota and this should have been given a deeper look by the organizers of the Super Cup before accepting KHE as Education representative.
Was ASSE Invincibles Cheated?
This question births two answers. Yes and No
No, they were not cheated. If ASSE had won the Nuesa Dean’s Cup which it lost at the final by 1-0 to KHE, the consideration of this whole writeup wouldn’t have in any way worth the tip of an ink as ASSE would have still went on to represent Education as both last winners and last session winners. Also, no one can ascertain the real motive of the Nuesa Sports Director for organizing the competition at such bad timing. As we can’t rule out the possibility of favoritism to his own department – who later won – and brought about this particular thought.
Yes, ASSE was cheated. As there are high chances of the competition coming before Nuesa Dean’s Cup next session, it means that the same KHE will again represent education as ‘Last session winners’ and not as ‘Last winners’. The last session winner idea which didn’t work for ASSE will now work for KHE next session. Also, that 90% of those participating in the Super Cup are ‘last session winners’ of their faculty means that ASSE was cheated.
Sports Director’s Integrity
Pending the outcome of the Nuesa FLC Displinary Committee, the real integrity of the Sports Director will be known. As he has been alleged of mismanagement, accountability, questioning the bad organization of the Dean’s cup, and some financial irregularities through a public petition by the former Nuesa FLC Speaker, Rt. Hon. Usman Bolarinwa and the findings of the Program and Implementation Monitoring Committee (PIMC), his credibility will be revealed.
The outcome of the disciplinary committee will weigh the stance of what he portrays as his own integrity. That there were manipulations during Nuesa Dean’s Cup or that the representation quota of education at the Super Cup was mismanaged lies on the sole question mark that had been tagged to his integrity.
ASSE Invincibles participant at the survival cup were held in a goalless draw against their combo opponents of Physio/Bio at their opening match of the 2024 Survival Cup on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
The Survival Cup, which is originally an initiative of the former UI’SU Sports Secretary OJB, started on Monday, February 26, 2024. is a football tournament in which 200 level students of every department in the university of Ibadan get to participate. Although 100 and direct entry students are also given few slots to participate in the tournament.
ASSE invincibles took on the BAMSSA Boys in the opening Group B match at the SUB pitch. The group, like every group in this year’s survival cup, is only made up of 3 teams.
The tie ended in a goalless draw as both less experienced sides failed to find the back of the net. All thanks to the solid invincible defense that secured a point against the BAMSSA Boys as ASSE goalkeeper performance almost cost the team.
The invincibles also failed to score despite a high number of changes in the game. The invincibles need to train harder and work on their weakness as they face Tech giants WIPE in their last group B match.
The match against WIPE will style to be a must win in order to progress to the quarter finals of the Survival Cup.

Recall that a resolution was previously passed by the house which expressed that basic dues will be used as voting criterion during the forthcoming NUESA Elections. The aftermath which saw reactions from press organizations, including a feature article from Assesa Press has resulted in a new direction.
According to a resolution of the house which was released on the morning of Sunday, February 25, 2024 and signed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Isaac Boluwatife, pointed that the criterion is provisional subject to the electoral commission fetching educators data from ITEMs.
In plain expression, this means that upon the data sourcing from ITEMs and presentation by the electoral commission, the criterion will be automatically canceled.
At the plenary session of the Nuesa 12th Assembly Faculty Legislative Council (FLC) on Saturday, February 24, 2024 around the faculty sit-out, the house passed a resolution that overrides the aspirants endorsement of departmental stakeholders.
In item number 4 resolution released by the house on the morning of Sunday, February 25, 2024 signed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Isaac Boluwatife, it unanimously stressed that endorsement should never be a criterion for an aspirants to contest for an election.

The house, as such, emphasized that even though endorsement is permitted, the unconstitutional act of disenfranchisement is condemned.

The House deliberated on this and unanimously condemned this unconstitutional practice, stressing that while endorsement is permitted, it should not be a criterion for contesting elections.”

“To struggle against censorship, whatever its nature, and whatever the power under which it exists, is my duty as a writer, as are calls for freedom of the press. I am a passionate supporter of that freedom, and I consider that if any writer were to imagine that he could prove he didn’t need that freedom, then he would be like a fish affirming in public that it didn’t need water”
Mikhail Bulgakov
There are times when they will strictly inform you not to meddle or interfere with the affairs of two strong individuals who are at the peak of a heated quarrel. It is the belief that the rain of blames will land on such a person trying to separate these individuals. Such a person will be portrayed as a bad divider or even seen as the sole escalator of the whole matter.
Again, the “truth” they say is very hard to chew. At any point in time when you see that you’ve never had the course to engage in disagreement or quarrel with your circle of friends, it can only mean one thing; either the friendship is full of lies or that none is ready to call one another to order. At every point in time, once you take a bold step to unravel and speak the sole truth, you must be ready to harbor an army of enemies. They will come at you, not once, not twice, but a number of times. They’ll call you names, they will see you as a top foe who refuses to compromise.
It should be noted that Assesa Press as a separate and independent body with its duty clearly and precisely stated have often been dragged innocently to matters of political engagements. Irrespective of the origin, demography, name or description a press body employs as a recognition, it still doesn’t translate that it should be pushed or spoon-fed in bending to the political clash and sway that occur within its jurisdiction. The Press is a non-partisan association confined with independent decisions that are only guided by the will to promote fairness, credibility and exercise its watchdog role.
Considering the position the Press body holds in respect of its activities, it carries out such with no favoritism and show of support to anyone even when such a candidate is conferred with the public support and has the backing of the popular figures. Not only should the jurisdiction accept this, they are also meant to see light in the activities and clearly understand the stance and how the Press operates. Every attempt to influence the runs and affairs of the Press are seen as moves to put Press under control which thus seems out of order.
Assesa Press as a member of the distinguished journalism body duly registered under the Union of Campus Journalist, University of Ibadan, is a reputable body that carries out its activities with respect to a defined role, duties and obligations. Assesa Press will never at any point in time associate itself in any form of political merge or surge of support for any sort of candidate or allowed to be dragged along with the storms and whistles of the political class. Assesa Press will never take a stand to stylishly show support for any candidate or potential candidate whatsoever. Assesa Press through its independent language and voice will always stand firm to any of its publications and uphold the notion that it’s NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH.
The position of Assesa Press among its other journalism worlds has always been distinctive and at no attempt will it open its doors to any form of oppression. Every single publication that runs through the helm of the Editorial Board is outrightly a voice of stance that connotes a statement of veracity. Regardless of the familiar political wave that presently visits the corridors of the department, Assesa Press clearly disassociates itself from being a tool in the hands of any dubious individual or that it will allow any of its members to be used as a form of oppression through the hands of the pen.
It should be noted that Assesa Press is not distancing itself from being a form of tool that can bring about a united shape to the department; we are not saying that Assesa Press is not in anyway concerned about finding a lasting solution to what seem like a sessional curse in the department; we are not saying that we only bear of its name but does not represents its image; not that we are comfortable with the wind blew past the tents of the department. Our word is simply that we separate ourselves from being an agent of manipulation and misrepresentation, we refuse to be used and we’ll always spell out the word FAIR and JUSTICE at every point in time.
Alas! To all who have ears should listen to the beat of this tune. At no point will Assesa Press tolerate an avenue where members of the public will deem it fit to run any sort of abuse or backlash against its press members. IF ANYONE HAS AN ISSUE WITH A PUBLICATION, SUCH AN INDIVIDUAL SHOULD RESPECTFULLY ATTACK THE ARTICLE AND NOT THE WRITER, or better still walk up to the Editor-in-Chief for clarity. To this, we stand on the solid rock to uphold the truth we hold dear, operate in the most diligent way we’ve always been known of, stay put to being indifferent in any matter whatsoever and ensure we hold the interest of Assesaites and the general public at heart.
To those who are at the helm of affairs, to the DCC, CEC, Stakeholders and all Assesaites, let’s come together for a common goal. Not coming together forcefully but willingly deciding to join hands for the good of the department. Even though the present situation at the moment is a matter that requires a miraculous intervention, we should put in our efforts to ensure things get better even if it’s just by a step, it is still termed as progress. Lets not breed the voice that there is no hope left for Assesa. The division seed of inheritance left for us should not germinate and grow strong before our eyes. Let’s rise to the current occasion and work out any workable solution.
This rejoinder is necessary to erase all thoughts of antagonism that has been directed to the Press. Also, it is of importance to educate and remember the populace of what Assesa Press as an independent decision making body stands for. The entire populace is therefore expected to respect the press operation and its principles. Any attempt to question or subject its respect to any form of personal thought will spell depriving the Press of its authorized independence.

The art of deception is a mastered act by these cunning student politicians! Be it Assesa, Nuesa, SU, or even Halls of Residences. Among their arsenal of trickery, propaganda reigns supreme. Now, one might argue that propaganda merely serves as a tool to sway public opinion, but let’s call a spade a spade – it’s nothing but a subjective-rear campaign aimed at rubbing minds in a bid to curry favour with the electorate.
Listen up, folks! Whatever happened to promoting oneself without dragging others through the mud? Ever seen a commercial where Coca-Cola slams Pepsi as an undrinkable swill? No, because if your product is truly top-notch, you don’t need to resort to mudslinging. As election season looms, brace yourselves for the onslaught of these so-called “politrickcians” – cohorts of the wily tortoise, armed to the teeth with character assassinations and fault-finding missions against their opponents. But we, the discerning minds of academia, urge them to abandon such nefarious tactics. If your track record speaks volumes, let your actions do the talking instead of tugging at heartstrings or playing the victim card.
Step out of the shadows and face the electorate with integrity. We, the informed masses, refuse to be swayed by flimsy tricks aimed at besmirching the characters of others while attempting to portray oneself as the epitome of virtue, despite harbouring skeletons in the closet. Nor shall we allow ourselves to be pawns in the political game, mere mercenaries enlisted to propagate injustice.
Furthermore, we must recognize the insidious nature of these propaganda campaigns. They prey on our fears, our insecurities, and our biases, manipulating us into believing half-truths and outright lies. It’s a calculated strategy designed to sow division and discord among us, distracting from the real issues at hand. We cannot allow ourselves to be pawns in this game of deceit, blindly following the pied pipers of propaganda down a path of mutual enmity and distrust. We cannot allow some person’s to play the victim in order to ride on our emotions, if you are truly fit sell yourself and don’t manipulate public opinions.
And let it be known that the press remains impartial. Today, their voice may seem to align with your cause, but make no mistake – their allegiance lies with the truth alone. We are merely fulfilling our duty, shedding light on the shortcomings of those who seek to lead us. So, don’t be surprised if the same press that once seemed to champion your cause ends up exposing your flaws to the powers that be. You may be tricksters like the proverbial tortoise but remember, we are a watchdog for a reason because we have a hyper smell to smell out your deception.
In the end, it falls upon each and every one of us to resist the seductive allure of political propaganda. We must educate ourselves, question everything, and hold our leaders to the highest standards of integrity and accountability. Only then can we hope to break free from the shackles of deception and forge a path toward a brighter, more enlightened future. For in the battle of ideas and ideals, truth shall always emerge victorious.
Every single person on Earth, even the ones we think are already made keep striving to be more. Why? It still boils down to the fact that human needs are insatiable. Yet, the sad reality is that some never get where they aspire to be. If you don’t want to be among them, it’s time to take action. Keep reading to find out how to make your imaginations come true!
Say No To Procrastination
You’ve probably heard about this before but what did you do? Are you still a master of procrastination? If yes, it’s still not get up and do something before it destroys your future ambitions. Every second, minute, hour and day you waste is instrumental to your growth. The best way to conquer procrastination is just get up and do what you’re supposed to do. Don’t think about the hurdles you will face. Just start somewhere and you’ll realize things become easier as you press further.
Dedicate Time To Reading Books
During my primary school days, I used to think my teachers only told us, “Readers are Leaders” just to encourage us to read our school books. Now, I understand better than that. In real life, readers are truly leaders and it’s not academic books alone. Also, it doesn’t mean leaders in the academic or political space alone. In any area you want to attain growth, it’s important to read helpful books about the field. Still, you should only select those written by experts in the field who have gotten results.
Aspire To Be Better
One of the huge mistakes we’re making or have made at some point in our lives is to take credit for past successes and remain there. If you really want to grow, you must look beyond your current status. No matter the height you’ve attained, don’t stay there. If you wish to move to the next level, you must put in extra work to reach where you want to be. It aligns with the saying that you can’t keep doing things the same way and expect a different result. It’s time to try something new!
Don’t Be Afraid To Make Mistakes
It’s not a curse but you’re going to make tons of mistakes on your road to personal development. Mistakes provide an avenue for you to learn certain lessons and see things in a new light. Truly, mistakes can be discouraging but don’t let it completely discourage you from pressing further. Yet, be open to stay away from mistakes that could have been avoided. For instance, if an expert in your industry advises you not to make certain decisions because they’ve tried it and didn’t get results, the best option may be to listen to them.
Don’t Be Afraid To Fail
What’s this writer saying, you may wonder. Is she in her right senses? I sure am. Fortunately, I have facts to back up my claim. Many great inventors failed greatly before they finally succeeded so what makes you different? For instance, Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone struggled for nearly a decade before he could get his ideas off the ground. In most cases, successes don’t come without previous failures. So even if your best idea has failed, don’t give up. Of course, it’s okay to feel a little down but don’t stay that way for too long. It’s time to pick up the pieces and move on.
Put In More Work Than You Ever Did
Want to achieve success without working hard? That’s definitely a joke! If you want a different kind of success, you need to put in the work. This doesn’t imply you have to push yourself to the extent of your body breaking down but you still have to work. Rather than spend all your leisure hours scrolling through Tiktok and Instagram, do something that will add more value to your life. This can be in the form of practicing your skills, reading books or watching YouTube videos from experts. Don’t enrich content creators alone, you need to enrich yourself as well.
Grow At Your Own Pace
Human beings aren’t the same. Little wonder why we have different birth dates and body features. As such, we can’t possibly grow at the same rate. This is why some babies still crawl when their mates have started walking. Definitely, it’s hard seeing your mates grow when you’re still at the same spot but you mustn’t be discouraged. Using another person’s yardstick to measure your life is putting yourself under unnecessary pressure.
Your road to personal development shouldn’t end with this article. As mentioned earlier, if you want more success, you need to do more. Most importantly, you won’t grow if you just gather knowledge and never utilize it. The most important aspect of self development is doing something. No matter how little or big, it will take you a step further to your dreams.

Growing apprehension surrounds loan apps due to their susceptibility to mishandle personal data and engage in unethical behaviors. With technological advancements, the emergence of loan apps, also referred to as digital lenders or online banks, has facilitated borrowing and repayment via smartphone applications. These digital financial services are not exclusive to developed nations; they are now accessible in Nigeria as well. While the convenience of accessing financial services is appreciated by many, it raises concerns such as privacy risks and vulnerability to deceitful tactics.
Most loan apps can be found on various platforms like the Google Play Store and Apple Store. Currently, there are 211 licensed loan apps operating in Nigeria, as reported by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. Among these, 172 have received full approval, while the remaining 39 have conditional approvals. This represents a slight uptick from the 204 licensed digital lenders noted in September. Recently, the regulator, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, voiced apprehension regarding the increasing instances of customer rights violations among these apps and announced its intention to impose sanctions.
Google Play Store vs Apple Store
The Google Play Store has a less stringent process for app listings compared to the Apple App Store, raising concerns about the presence of potentially harmful apps. Numerous loan apps on the Google Play Store promise swift and convenient access to funds, often with easier eligibility criteria than those on the Apple Store.
Michael Amerson, Art Director at Wet Production, highlighted on Quora that Apple adopts a proactive approach by manually reviewing content submissions before allowing them on the App Store. In contrast, Amerson noted, “Google employs a more reactive approach to submissions. They permit submissions to be automatically approved initially, and if later flagged for any reason, they are taken down until rectified and resubmitted.”
Tips
In the past year, Google removed 43 Android apps from the app store due to violations of the Google Play Developer policy, despite accumulating a total of 2.5 million downloads. These apps were discovered to be displaying ads even when the device’s screen was inactive. In November, Sundar Pichai, Google’s Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to finding a balance. He stated, “We value choice, hence on Android, we allow users to sideload and install additional applications.” Pichai cautioned users by likening the situation to a seatbelt in a car, emphasizing the importance of adding protections for safe usage, while acknowledging that risks still exist.
Hidden interest rates
A significant worry linked with numerous loan apps is the absence of clarity regarding fees and interest rates. Experts caution that loan apps pose risks, potentially ensnaring borrowers in a cycle of debt, particularly when multiple loans are taken out and repayment becomes challenging.
Privacy and data security risks
The National Information and Technology Development Agency levied a fine of N10 million on Soko Lending Company, a Nigerian online lending platform, on August 17 for breaching privacy regulations. The penalty was imposed in response to numerous complaints filed against the company, which included allegations of unauthorized disclosures, failure to protect customers’ personal data, and defamation. Nearly a year earlier, Google announced that loan apps would be barred from accessing users’ photos and contacts, effective May 31, 2023, as part of efforts to tackle mounting privacy apprehensions associated with such apps.
Additionally, experts recommend uninstalling unnecessary bloatware and redundant applications from your phone to optimize storage space and improve device performance. It is imperative to remain vigilant and implement necessary precautions to protect both your personal information and financial security while utilizing Android devices.
Important suggestions consist of reviewing feedback, confirming the authenticity of an application, and comprehensively grasping its terms and conditions.
Users risk compromising their privacy and exposing themselves to potential identity theft unknowingly.
It’s crucial to examine the permissions requested by these apps and assess whether they are warranted for the services offered.
Summarily, taking these measures is crucial to safeguard oneself from the potential dangers linked with dishonest loan apps. By staying knowledgeable and watchful, users can make informed choices and avoid possible hazards.

Sunshine is a good thing but when it’s in the extreme, it has harmful effects on individuals both young and old, pregnant and those with critical health conditions.
As Students who frequent under the hot sun either by walking to classes, doing a sports activity or sitting in an improperly ventilated Lecture theater for over a long period of time, here are measures or tips that could help in coping with the current heatwave in Nigeria:
1.Limiting your movement under the sun: Avoid stepping out during the hottest hours of the day (12pm to 3pm) in order to avoid suffering from heat exhaustion or even heatstroke. By: Josephine Awomodu Reducing belly fat often comes as a result of overall fat loss from a mix of exercise and diet adjustments, which varies for each person based on factors like age, gender, height, weight, activity level, diet, and health conditions. To achieve a toned midsection, focus on exercises like planks and leg raises that target fat burning, core strengthening, and muscle building. The duration for losing body fat differs for each individual and is influenced by various factors such as: age, gender, height, weight, physical activity level, eating habit, and any underlying health conditions. Typically, burning 3,500 calories results in losing 1 pound (lb) of fat. For instance, reducing daily calorie intake by 500 calories could lead to losing about 1 lb per week or 4 lbs per month.
Here are 6 effective exercises to reduce and keep belly fat in check 1. Core-Engaging Plank This exercise targets a plethora of muscles, including the core, upper and lower abdominals. Notably, planking surpasses other ab exercises in calorie burn by enlisting the arms, legs, and back. Procedure – Lie face down, resting on forearms with elbows aligned under shoulders. – Lift body onto toes and forearms, forming a straight line from head to heels. – Hold this position, ensuring straight alignment of head, neck, back, and legs. – Maintain for a comfortable duration before returning to the starting position.
2. Side Plank The side plank engages the obliques, arms, and glutes, refining lateral core muscles. Procedure – Lie on one side, propping up the body with one forearm on the floor, elbow directly under shoulder. – Stack feet and hips, forming a straight line from head to heels. – Lift hips off the floor, engaging core and glutes for stability. – Hold the position, then gently lower hips back down. – Repeat on the opposite side. – For an added challenge, incorporate rotation by lifting the top arm and gently twisting the torso while sweeping the arm beneath the body. – Strive for 8–10 repetitions on each side to optimise results.
3. Toe Reaches This exercise hones in on the abdominal muscles and serves as an excellent starting point for novices aiming to bolster their core. Procedure – Lie on your back with your legs and feet up in the air at a 90-degree angle. – Use your core muscles to lift your upper body towards your toes. – Hold this position for 1 or 2 counts, then slowly lower back down while keeping your core engaged. – Start with 1–3 sets of 18–20 repetitions each.
4. Roll Ups or Straight-Legged Sit-Up Roll-ups activate a spectrum of muscles including the abdominals, lower back, and obliques. Procedure –Lie on your back with your legs straight and slightly apart. – Place your hands behind your head. – Slowly lift your upper body, keeping your back straight, until you’re sitting upright. – Lower yourself back down gradually while keeping your spine aligned. – Aim for up to 3 sets, spending 1 minute on each set.
5. Dynamic Bicycle Crunches Bicycle crunches are instrumental in sculpting the abdominal muscles and obliques, delivering a comprehensive core workout. Procedure – Begin by lying supine, interlace your fingers behind your head, and elevate your head and shoulders from the floor. Simultaneously, raise your knees to align directly above your hips. – Exhale as you twist your torso, bringing your left elbow toward your right knee while extending your left leg. – Hold the pose for 1–2 counts. – Inhale as you return to the starting position. – Repeat the sequence on the opposite side. – Strive for 3 sets comprising 12–20 repetitions each, with a brief 30–60 seconds rest interval after each set.
6. Dynamic Burpees Burpees are a dynamic full-body exercise that torches calories and fosters muscle development. Procedures – Begin by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart. – Squat down while reaching your hands toward the floor. – Kick your legs back to get into a plank position. – Quickly bring your legs back to the squat position. – Jump up explosively, reaching your arms overhead. – Land softly and return to the starting position. – Start with 2 sets of 10–15 repetitions each, with a rest period of 30–60 seconds between sets.
By Seilatolaide Second semester started and tick so fast with an approach like a blink of an eye. The period has been embodied with several activities both academics and extracurricular activities. Second semester in the University of Ibadan is well known to be filled with several of these activities which is why a ring of call is essential to prevent students from losing the track to the targeted goal of coming out with flourishing grades. The semester is relaying to an end as the
semester is left with just few weeks to examination, it is not oblivious that the extracurricular activities are taking their height at this period and so many students want to participate in what it has to offer but in doing this, it should be noted that examination is weeks close and therefore everyone should adjust to the 80 to 20 way of balancing academics with extracurricular activities.
These extracurricular activities include jaw war, sports, thug of words, political campaign and process. Note that the intent of the article is not to totally tell readers to drop extracurricular activities as they hold a high benefit and impact on one’s self esteem, confidence and academic motivation; also impact on excellence. But the twist is that the measurement of academic performance can not be based on the achievements earned from engaging in these activities. These activities have also gone to the length of distorting students’ seriousness in terms of presence in the classroom, consequently leading to missed tests and class assessments.
Questions could be asked around how to manage oneself to prevent future crises in academic performance during these periods where extracurricular activities are at their peak and exams are fast approaching. This is a simple strategy which requires putting engagement in these activities at their lowest to cover up with the primary aim of being in the university. Going back to the ways through which academic excellence can be achieved, all the strategies to academic excellence include good time management.
This is where balancing is highly emphasized, a to-do list can be generated for easy follow up, maintaining a good health habit through proper nutrition, fruits and exercise, attending classes more than before and getting prepared ahead of impromptu tests. Also, getting one’s note ready through taking notes in classes or having a copy of a missed one to stay updated, having a good reading and revision time by establishing reading habits and methods that enhance your easy assimilation, all these will help establish a great wave.
A call to this is an important reminder as earlier stated that the extracurricular activities won’t have a calculated bonus to what the academic results will look like. This implies that a proper preparation starts early and as early as it starts, it should be done with much focus. The fresh students should be very conscious of this as it will be their first session in the university, a good start in the first semester can be easily knocked down by the input and outcome of the second semester. To prevent this downfall. one needs to buckle up and grab the big grades ahead.
By: Adeniran Oluwafemi In the ongoing effort by the Federal Government to address food inflation and the escalating cost of living crisis in the nation, Nigerians are urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize the expulsion of killer herdsmen. These herdsmen, notorious for their violent actions, have instilled fear in farmers, compelling many to abandon their farms.
Throughout the country, prominent farmers have left their agricultural pursuits due to the daily occurrences of kidnapping and unprovoked killings carried out by herdsmen armed with AK-47s. Since 2015, instances of abduction, rape, and murder have become pervasive across the country, with herders wielding weapons wreaking havoc in the nation’s forests and bushes.
Farmers attribute the soaring costs of food items, in part, to the heightened insecurity in the country. They firmly believe that if farmers had not been forced away from their lands, the current high prices of food items would not be as pronounced. The nation is grappling with an enduring food crisis as commodity prices surge daily. Many Nigerians link this crisis to the activities of armed herdsmen who, by driving farmers away from their fields, contribute significantly to the problem.
Owing to the recent and ongoing display of relevance in what seems to style as diversity within division and the course to control power, there have been a series of outcomes in the last few days. For the range of what it holds, it raises questions and concerns, it provides us with the avenue to ponder, wonder and ask questions resulting from what can be best described as a free stage drama. Well, it is the art of the department, it lives within the heart of its authority, it focuses on the helm to dismantle the root. This makes us ask questions, even though we might not see clarifications.
To begin, who are the stakeholders? It’s necessary to point out that stakeholder is a league of highly respected individuals in the department who must have gained such respect via the attitude of previously or currently holding political positions, or fit as honorary within these contexts through the shades of experience. This clearly shows that the decisions of the stakeholders on who to endorse for political aspirations or tag as flag bearer styles to a final agreement and stands as such. But, it becomes questionable when the pronunciation of this body turns out to have stylishly lost its legitimate authority.
Although, the formation of a stakeholder is not backed by any constitutional postulation but has become a matter of tradition and custom owing to the importance of its formation. For the sole purpose of political marginalization with other departments and forming strategic routes to ensure aspirants of the department claim victory in election, the experience and intelligence of the stakeholder is highly needed and necessary for this kind of arrangement. Likewise, it embodies the image of unity and one voice.
Obviously, the power tuzzle is a camel that is on its way to climax, it’s a battle of what is what and who is who. It is a battle that has created various factions which seem to represent the arrival of the dare devil of division. For the case of aspirants opposing the pronouncement and sayings of the stakeholders translates to a situation that warrants the use of an inner eye for an insightful clarification. One tends to ask what must have shaken the ‘unquestionable stance’ of the stakeholders, or should we say the aspirants are the ones who are hell bent on being too selfish where they are more focused on placing self ambition over the department’s goal and unification?
Again, a rational individual will say that everyone has the right to contest for a political position irrespective of the position of the stakeholders. These set of individuals will further reason to say the endorsement of the stakeholders is only to pronounce that they have chosen who they want to ‘publicly’ support with the aim of some circulated political mathematical configuration and permutations. So, to these individuals of this school of thought, they feel a person has the right to exercise his/her franchise as much as he’s qualified under the ESEC’s requirements.
What does the NUESA constitution say on departmental post aspiration quota and endorsement? Strolling across the pages of the Nuesa constitution (2023 Amended), it stressed that a department can only have aspirants contest for not more than 3 key political positions (which the key positions are President, Vice President, General Secretary, Fin Sec and Treasurer). The constitution does not in any way tell of how many position aspirants from a particular department can contest for. On endorsement, the constitution likewise doesn’t not make provision for if an individual who is not endorsed by a department can contest for any Nuesa positions.
When asked what kind of punishment awaits any aspirants who are not endorsed by the department but still go on to campaign, a reputable Assesa Stakeholder explained that the punishment of such individuals will be decided by the association’s Staff Adviser. On another end, a reputable member of the Nuesa FLC 12th Assembly (name withheld) explains that inasmuch the constitution is muted on if an aspirant not endorsed by the department can still contest, definitely such individuals can contest for Nuesa Positions.
To say it has come to a charge of power tuzzle explains the description of the present charge. Who explains what supersedes? The right of an individual or the pronouncement of an authority? Should personal ambition be killed for the ambition of a jurisdiction? Does this mean that the right of an individual can be made to come far below once the rise of a common ambition is present? How can we measure the weight of selfish ambition against long nurtured self ambition? Does it mean that an individual possesses a selfish ambition if he/she is hellbent on putting such ambition into action no matter what?
On this note, arms are crossed as the intervention of several measures is expected. We hope the house pictured of diverse interest will stand firm with a unified voice. We hope that the uphold of individual rights is respected for the sake of selfless ambition. We hope that selfish interest will be submerged for the rise of a well nurtured image supported by the common good. As we await further plays, we expect resolutions and modifications. May the powers that be, of justice and fairness, may it prevail!

Student organisations, tasked with representing the interests of their members, often find themselves at a crossroads when it comes to allocating resources. In recent years, there has been a growing trend towards diverting funds towards charitable endeavours external to the student body. However, this shift raises questions about the core mission of these organisations and whether their primary responsibility should lie in serving their own constituents.
Reflecting on past experiences, such as witnessing funds earmarked for charity projects seemingly unrelated to student welfare, prompts a critical examination of the purpose and priorities of student organisations. While altruism is commendable, it must not overshadow the fundamental obligation to address the needs and concerns of the student community. For instance, a scene from yesteryears, a moment frozen in time. In the year 19gbogboro, on a sombre date etched in memory, I beheld a perplexing sight. Money, extracted from the coffers of a student association, flowed like water, purportedly for the noble cause of charity. But pause for a moment, dear reader, and ponder with me: What charity was this? Was it for the destitute students grappling with tuition fees? Was it to provide essential stationery for those facing exams without resources? Alas, it was neither.
As I stood amidst the spectacle of generosity, a gnawing realisation crept in – this charity was not for the welfare of the students it purported to represent. Instead, it was a hollow gesture, a mere token of benevolence with no tangible impact on those it purported to serve. The funds, extracted from the lean pockets of the students’ association already burdened with the weight of cultural night, movie night, publicity rigour, were squandered on ventures far removed from their concerns.
But let us not cast stones hastily, for therein lies no solution. Instead, let us reason together, dear Assesaites, and ponder the true essence of our noble endeavour. Should a student association, tasked with safeguarding the interests of its members, be burdened with the mantle of charity? Should the weight of altruism rest upon shoulders already laden with burdened expenses? You and I know that a lot of activities the association organises often need the contribution of donors hence, It is essential to engage in open dialogue and collaborative discourse to reevaluate the objectives of student organisations. Rather than merely following trends or external pressures, it is imperative to establish a clear vision and mandate that aligns with the core principles of student advocacy and welfare.
One must consider the broader implications of allocating resources towards external charitable endeavours. While such initiatives may garner praise and recognition, they may also detract from the primary mission of student organisations. By diverting funds away from programs and services directly benefiting students, there is a risk of neglecting pressing issues within the student community.
Moreover, the financial burden placed on students associations to support external charitable endeavours raises ethical concerns. As students already face financial constraints and academic pressures, imposing additional financial obligations for charitable causes unrelated to their welfare exacerbates their challenges. Let it be known far and wide, that the true measure of our compassion lies not in grand gestures of charity, but in the tangible impact we make on the lives of our peers. Let us be the architects of change, the guardians of student welfare, and the champions of a cause worth fighting for.
Furthermore, there is a need to explore alternative approaches to promoting social responsibility within the student community. Student organisations can leverage their collective voice and influence to advocate for systemic changes that address root causes of social issues. This may involve engaging in policy advocacy, community partnerships, and grassroots organising to effect meaningful change.
Ultimately, the success of student organisations hinges on their ability to strike a balance between internal advocacy and external engagement. While charitable endeavours have their place, they must not overshadow the core mission of student advocacy and welfare. By prioritising the needs of their constituents and fostering a culture of solidarity and empowerment, student organisations can fulfil their mandate as vehicles for positive change within the student community.
In conclusion, the debate surrounding the role of student organisations in charitable endeavours underscores the importance of reevaluating priorities and staying true to core principles. By prioritising student welfare, needs that are more peculiar to students of the association . Let us be the thread that binds us together, weaving a narrative of hope, resilience, and unwavering solidarity. For in the end, it is not the grandeur of our gestures that define us, but the sincerity of our intentions and the impact of our actions. It is through collective action and collaboration that student organisations can fulfil their mandate as catalysts for positive change within the student community.

– Mikhail Bulgakov
They’ll call you names, they will see you as a top foe because you refuse to compromise.
Every attempt to influence the runs and affairs of the Press are seen as moves to put the Press body under control which thus seems out of order.
Assesa Press through its independent language and voice will always stand firm to any of its publications and uphold the notion that it’s NOTHING, BUT THE TRUTH.
It should be noted that Assesa Press is not distancing itself from being a form of tool that can bring about a united shape to the department; we are not saying that Assesa Press is not in anyway concerned about finding a lasting solution to what seem like a sessional curse in the department; we are not saying that we only bear of the name ‘Assesa’ but does not represents its image; not that we are comfortable with the wind that is blowing past the tents of the department. Our words are simple, that we separate ourselves from being an agent of manipulation and misrepresentation; we refuse to be used and we’ll always spell out the word FAIR and JUSTICE at every point in time.
To this, we stand on the solid rock that uphold the truth we hold dear; operate in the most diligent way we’ve always been known for; stay put to being indifferent in any matter whatsoever and ensure we hold the interest of Assesaites and the general public at heart.
To those who are at the helm of affairs, to the DCC, CEC, Stakeholders and all Assesaites, let’s come together for a common goal. Not coming together forcefully but willingly deciding to join hands for the good of the department. Even though the present situation at the moment is a matter that requires a miraculous intervention, we should put in our efforts to ensure things get better. Even if it’s just by a step, it is still termed as progress.
At NUESA Dean’s Cup quarter final match played between the female team of ASSE and ADE at the SUB Pitch on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the defending champions have now reached the semifinal of the competition following a 5-0 victory against ADE.
The ASSE Females proved themselves once again as the Queens of female football in the university of Ibadan after ruthlessly thrashing their opponents in a well possessive match.
The invincibles dominated their opponents throughout their encounter with all five goals coming in the first half .
Omolola scored a ridiculous first half hat trick with Esther hitting a first half brace. The second half was a little bit difficult for the high scoring invincibles as the ADE Females put up a solid defensive display to prevent more goals from entering their net.
The ASSE Females have been invincible since the beginning of this tournament as they conveniently ease past every opponent they’ve faced. Being the favorite, they currently edge closer to defending the title and win it for a record 2 straight time.
